I am in a position where I could apply for a road position at either place. Which one is better and why. No boxing gloves needed I am just trying to make the better choice here. Thank you in advance.

Where would I be more likely stay busy year round?

I could throw indy in the mix also but I know the yard is small. But I am not sure on the quality or volume of their runs.

Much harder to get on in Kansas City. You will be running extra-board for at least a decade or longer at either place. If its all the same, draw a circle roughly 600 miles from either terminal to determine which area you prefer operating in and then apply at that terminal.

You will stand a better chance of not getting laid off in Chicago but with this company, never say never!

And I do believe that Indy is going through a COO right now and bringing a terminal or three in from the suburbs.

Dayton, OH is still hiring.
Everyone they've hired from late last year is still working. Myself included. I started in Sept.

KC hasnt hired for ages, so you say you are in a position to apply,, Apply all you want, many have and they are hiring no one!! Chicago will hire you and run your nuts off and you have no life and dictatorship type rules and bosses. You will hate it and beg to stay out and run out of KC,, Chicago guys do it at KC,, they would rather run extra out of KC then their own barn.. And it works for KC,, so why hire!! Both Dayton and SCH do this.. Thats why KC will not hire..Drivers think KC guys never work, its not true, all our guys get trips in and are off due to not enough drivers.. They dont replace after retirement, deaths, quitting, etc.. Big board dwindling.. I belive this is for a reason, others dont.. If you want to work and run hard and have no life, go to Chicago.. otherwise go to another Company,, KC is not hiring and dont be fooled they are...

But to answer your question, KC is better than Chicago.. at least the management is nice and respectful.

And I thought this was going to be about the Royals and the Cubs.

Thanks everyone there seems to be some good info here. I just saw they add K.C. to the terminals hiring that is why I said I have both options, as I live in St. Louis. I am just exploring my options. At this time they both do not seem so great are they that bad? Or is just bad timing with guys mad about the contract. I will definitely scratch indy off my list thanks again be safe.

not mad at contract, Kc has listed openings for road driver in past but not hired and had plenty of people apply but said they were not finding right people. People applying had no disqualifyers.. Chicago really does run a tight ship and runs you hard and by the clock on time off, etc.. Bosses are pricks. 2 yrs no vacation? Thats on you for deciding, pay is ok compared to other places.. As i said . kc management is cool. Good runs, no problem with getting trips and time off in every week.. Nice area compared to Chicago. I would apply for KC and see what happens if you have time to wait. Chicago will likely put you on fast.. you would be happier in KC but process is slower if they ideed are hiring.. just to me seems processes are different. Whether thats the Linehaul manager or not, I dont know.. Good Luck...

KC takes forever to get hired in at. I applied and june and they were still running background checks up until late september. finally got called to go donate pee and started soon after.

that wasn't the road though, we haven't hired for ages. the notice is up, word is a few guys want to transfer from city.. good luck, hope to see new guys in kc..

That wasn't KC, that's the Fort that handles the hiring and forever is the norm. Anything less than forever constitutes fast track at ABF.

You know what Itlfan. Take a chance, Don't let some disgruntled person try to discourage you. Apply at both and see what happens. With these big terminals not everybody is going to be happy. Chicago is going to be where you have a better chance of getting on. All domiciles are low on road drivers. If you get on now your chances of gaining seniority is greater.

someone told me they were putting on a few this week in KC, will let you know if its true or not.. 1 transfer from city and a few from YRC... May have been hired and awaiting start.. may be reason for pulling the openings, it was there, i saw it too. (road that is)

I was able to apply at KC. this weekend because I started the app. before it was taken down. I got lucky on that one but it sounds like they have a start on filling the spots already. We will see thank you for all the replies.
