I-71 OH. 2 dogs killed in a Semi that rear ended a Semi that had just pulled over.

Thought he had a flat tire, huh???Hate to be negative but I see drivers pull to the edge of the road to kick a tire, look at a road map, etc.Surely their are ramps in the area the driver could have pulled to safely to check his tire. Its just not safe or smart to use the shoulder of an Interstate, unless it is impossible to find a ramp, rest area, truckstop, etc.

You can legally drive with a flat tire to a safe haven. Unless of course you have super singles. "The Berm" is not a safe haven.

The only way im stopping on the shoulder of a highway,is if the truck completely stops..Read too many stories like this with bad endings.I was driving across I-80 in Ohio behind another driver with the company I worked for.He informed me he was gonna stop and kick a tire.I thought he was talking about the next plaza but he just pulls to the shoulder. He was a 20 yr driver.I told him I would meet him at the next plaza because I wasnt pulling on the shoulder.

Those emergency parking spaces are all right. But I wouldn't just stop along the berm anywhere.

Hmm I have been seeing more super singles lately.
Wonder if they are making a come back,or the ones in inventory are going for a bargain?

I agree that pulling off in a safe place is more consideration to those approaching, than just single minded thinking.

If that driver was completely on the shoulder then all the blame is on the Moron that rear-ended him. Wake Up.

I tried that 2 summers ago but the Ohio cop had me sit and wait on the shoulder for a tire change, even though I was a mile from an exit with a wide 2 lane "get on' where I could've been out of the way.

That was my plan 2 summers ago on the Ohio Turnpike. However, the trooper pulled me over. I told him I wanted to make it another mile to the exit which had a wide "get on" and would be out of the way. He told me "no, you're done", then gave me an inspection. Meanwhilel I sat there on the shoulder with a long set of doubles, praying somebody didn't cream me.
