I love my run but my meet driver is a diva.....every night he complains about something and calls central every night about something!

That can be quite the issue. Some meet drivers are great, some not so great. I had one, when my regular driver was on vacation, brought me a van with 4.3 placards...had two missing. His question? "Is this a problem?"

Going to another terminal that you used to work at is like going to Fort Knox, and if you go to visit, you might get fired.

Ok, you lost me. Even though you say you might get fired, do you really mean after you left the company? Or after transferring, whether voluntarily or on a COO? Because we had a DB out of my yard that reportedly got canned for being a royal piece of thieving cow manure, who allegedly after leaving the company made the mistake of showing up at two different yards unannounced...and both times the police were supposedly called...something to do with accounts by employees present that he had violent outbursts, and threatened to "go postal". So if the yard posts your picture in the guard shack and tells the security folks to call 911 if you show up...there just might be a reason....

Thought of a *****. The hub I run to has a policy of it is only ok for smokers to waste company time. Just curious if any other places are like this??

company time/department time seniority is a clusterf*(k....the date you were hired should be the law of the land, and would clear up alot of the issues with the current time/space continuum. IMO

Hardly. As a former Viking (I bring that up to show I'm not a noob), I didn't appreciate getting bumped by an influx of FedEx national drivers, all the while being told by those in charge that they (the fxnl guys) were dovetailing according to THEIR hire date!

If that standard is going to be offered to one portion of the workforce, it should apply to all members! Regardless if it was a "merger" rather than a change of operations (which in itself is a contradiction as fxfe was now hauling truckloads, which in itself is a "change of ops").

But even if your statement was true, where's the harm in wanting to change job duties without losing all of your strap? I understand that in that situation somebody's gna get "the short end of the stick" in that deal, why should it be the employee w the most tenure?

Personally RC believes they should have brought their hire date along for lay off purposes but job classification seniority for bidding.

Naw driver, I ain't mad atcha! Just different perspectives is all. Idk, I'm funny like that with wanting to have hire date seniority actually be worth something (including layoffs!), like it USED to. But that's just me, I'm weird like that.

Btw, I dig how u refer to yourself in the 3rd person, (reminds me of that Remus character on Boardwalk Empire), til next time EZTDBW!

Here's why RC thinks this way.
Way back when, as Viking grew, hire date seniority ruled supreme. As Viking grew and more domiciled were added, a problem began to arise. That junior driver, that either took a chance and transferred or the local person hired off the street was stuck at the bottom of the board forever as senior drivers wanting to get to a more rural setting transferred in. The solution to the problem was three distinct and separate forms of seniority. Company seniority, location seniority and department seniority. Company seniority for layoff purposes, location seniority for vacation bidding and dept seniority for job bidding. Solved a lot of issues.

So you say big deal, I'm not at a spin off domicile, this doesn't affect me.

So you work at a hub, say a former west hub that used to run 24/7 operations. You were an extra board driver that had to work nights and weekends for years, just waiting for that day run and a chance to get a day run and live like a real person. You wouldn't be too thrilled with someone that has never had to work nights and weekends taking the next day run.

I'm sure there may be similarities in the local realm but I've never had the desire to find out. Dealing with the public is not my forte as GFY is never very far away.

I respectfully disagree driver, whether as a hostler, janitor or os&d clerk we all began paying our dues the date we were hired.

Never was any doubt in my mind that you didn't get it. Congratulations on your recent 20 year service anniversary last fall.
You obviously have never been a line driver or you've spent your entire career in a cozy little EOL terminal. Either way, no sweat to RC, your 19882 number makes you junior to RC. Now genuflect and pay your respects!
