Apo I can sure appreciate your time and wealth of knowledge that you bring to the table. However, I feel positive that Overnite would be alive and doing fine had we not been bought by the "Enterprise". Smaller companies are doing just fine (Benton, Saia, Cooper and on and on) we may look a little different, but we would still be here and I gaurantee that this would be a much better place to work than it currently is. Times are slow and that's why it looks so bad, they hired all of these new employees expecting customers to fall at their feet wanting to ship with us and it didn't happen. So now we have a bunch of people ( all classifications just sitting around). I've been on the road almost 20 years and back running a 150 mile mini hub run that I was on 18 years ago. I would love to know the actual % of contractors to our dispatched line haul runs, anybody? I'll bet you that it's no where near the NMFA. Just sayin'. Decert could be the way, our union does very few things right, example 1 driver at our barn has a gauranteed run,(we have 8 schedules and 3 extra boards) that would be the #1 driver who also happens to be a steward. If his run is cut he can bump anyone whether they hold a bid or not. Local agreement reached by the manager , local prez and him. How convenient!!!!:LMAO:

If your steward is abusing the position, get the bylaws of your local and see if you can replace him by petition. Most stewards can be recalled by a simple majority. Trouble is, many complain but don't want to do the job.

Decert talk is just a lazy dumb-asses way of venting. If you don't have the ability to simply remove your steward, then you aren't gonna have the ability to decert.

Now if you are a free-loader, you can't remove a steward because you can't vote.

Oh, BTW, you would be making about the same as you you did 3 years ago if this was still ovnt. And since most of us work to earn money, I would say the union has done right by us on that end.

Cuzz the way I see it the Overnite upper management that were able to give Union Pacific what they were asking to do the buy back.
They really stuck their necks out,and put the company stock out in the public sector.
Had UPS taken a pass and purchased another LTL,who do you think would go for an LTL that was just greatly devalued by the 2 year Teamster strike action?
Then when the bottom fell out of trucking you think Overnite would have survived?

In my opinion they would have closed their operation like so many other LTL's before them.

So you see my friend agree or disagree these are the facts you can't ignore,if you buy something with all of your resources and have to rely on the stock market to keep you going.

I feel pretty certain if it was Overnite, we would be on the 15% give back plan.

Not everything is gonna go right with the Union, and it never will. But we have the best pay package in the business and that is the main reason we work. That you owe to the Union.

UPS a company used to dealing with the union in their parcel division was able to except their newly acquired Freight division to welcome union representation.
However after Overnite big wigs that did the buy back had just gone through 2 years off fighting the Teamsters to remain non-union.
You think with a very slim chance Overnite may still be operating without UPS buying them.
That any of the company would be organized.

Hmm your dreaming if you think so,and with the economy the way it fell apart how much you think you would be getting paid?

Timeline as I remember it, the so called "Strike" was in 1998 and we weren't bought out until 2005. Granted the economy was booming and so were we, again though I'll say that look at all the other companies that are still around today and I believe Overnite was in better shape than 95% of them, would we be making the money that we are now? Probably not! How much longer can this company continue to pay these wages while damages are up, accidents are through the roof (at least in my region)we have no maintenance at my terminal after 3 pm, no shop foreman and the list goes on and on? UPS may be making $3 billion profit but they sure aren't helping us out and Teamster it's not all about money, you need some job satisfaction and you have to want to come to work. Freeloader? Wow I live in a "Right to work state" I don't have to join. And that to is what makes America great! Thanks:shrug:

Cuzz I may be old,but I'm far from being bitter,as I did like working my city job for the 20 years I was with Overnite.
Although it was much harder working for UPS.
When I got to the age and years I needed to retire I did.
I don't miss finger printing freight most of the day,house, mall,and warehouse deliveries.
However I do miss my co-workers and some of the customers on my daily route.

But hay I got this here trucking message board to keep in touch with the LTL industry.

With the belly aching I have been reading here,I am sorry your contract is not working out for you.

The thing is the Union doesn't have the strength in numbers, they used to back in the days when I was a Teamster,which was from 1966 to 1986.
Before deregulation in the early 80's I think there was well over 3500 union LTL's and thats when the contracts were honored.

However sorry to say now days with so few Teamster LTL's left,the contracts don't have the clout they had back in the day.

So once again Teamster sir,if you were referring to me as being old and bitter I will admit I'm old,but bitter is not in my vocabulary.

A free loader is a person who is not a union member(doesn't pay dues) , yet takes all the benefits of the contract and the union services for free(loader).

Im not a freeloader it was forced on me . I have the right to say no and thats what I do . I dont call you a dumb a@@ for wanting the union . Dont hate the player hate the game

Just remember, sooner or later you will make a mistake and when the company turns on you for one reason or another.......and they will........your on your own.

Dues pay for representation,no dues to pay no one to represent you.
How long will one employee last against a giant like UPS without any representation.
Hmmm,your guess is as good as mine.
Best to cross all of your (T)'s and dot all of your (I)'s in other words work the way UPS wants you to work,or you will be kicked to the curb.
To be replaced by the next one on the list of many who want your job.
 
I was interviewed a month ago for a road position I was then told I didnt make the cut I have no accidents no tix and 20+ years experience. I get the feeling that i was interviewed based on what happens in arbitration. I was told that I am now in the system. Any thoughts?

I live in a right to work state work for clown way. I cant believe any idiot would opt of not paying for representation collective bargaining, etc. I worked for a teamster job for 17+ years DHL I paid $70 a month and contributed to DRIVE and did so happily. I also helped organize the overnite workers voluntarily we fought hard so that the labor movement would be spread to other workers. Some people just dont get what a struggle it was.

It seems to be getting a little more busy. If you are in the system it is probably for that reason.
