Hello everyone....I would really like to get hired on with FedEx Freight as a City driver. I have 15yrs LTL experience and 8yrs City driving with two top LTL carriers. I went into leadership with the last carrier and they would not let me go back as a driver once I was in Leadership. How do I get on with FedEx? I need some help! THANKS

Thanks Mrpostman. I have applied online. I never heard back from Fedex. I don't know why, I have a perfect driving record? I was thinking it was a who you know type of job. I wanted to find out how hard and how long it to more people who applied. I worked for SEFL and I know you can't get on with them unless you know someone.

How long ago did you apply? Just an fyi......once they hire for the position that is open all the applications for that opening are dumped. You don't stay in a "pool" of apps for the next opening. So reapply every time you see a new opening. Also if you don't have at least 1 year of experience in the last 2 or 3 I believe you wouldn't qualify as a driver without going through the training program.

Go to UPS don't hire on here. They offer way better benefits and pay.

Try to speak with the local cartage ops mgr. find out what the hiring opportunities are and lay out your experience. When you do apply online, if he likes you, he can request your application. A reference from someone you know that is an employee of that ops mgr goes a long way also.
Otherwise, you go into a big pile and HR. sends him what they think are the best choices.
And yes, being out of the truck for over a year is just like you never drove one.

I've walked into terminals and asked to talk to the manager. Takes balls, but with a good record and a good attitude, he'll remember your name. If you don't see the manager, leave a nice resume.
Have your record and EVERYTHING you've done in driving. They look at it. No lapses in employment.

Get a friend to drop your name.

When we hire drivers, our Ops Mgr comes to all of us and says "if you know anyone that wants a driving job, get me their name"

I have gotten 4 guys on personally. I give the ops mgr a Post-It note, with my friends name on it, and he can then pull the application.
Also helps that every driver I have recommended, has turned out to be a reliable, and good worker.

So, get in good with a local Fx driver, and get him to drop your name.

And this my friends is exactly what is wrong with this piece of society. Sure pal, I'll drop your name for ya. **** on the poor slob with perhaps better qualifications that got up extra early and paid his due diligence in hopes of landing a decent job only to get beat out of it by this nitwits friend

Anyone ever drove for ABF? Which would be the best carrier to drive for ABF or Fedex Freight?

Personally, I would go to CRST over Fedex. Within a couple of months you would be #1 driver and they have a lot of dedicated runs out of all the major cities???:6817:

Well if it makes you feel better I was hired off the street from applying online. I didn't know anyone at my terminal. I had to apply for several postings, but I eventually got on through good old fashioned perseverance.

If you know anyone that works for FXF and they are a brown noser you are a shoe in. They ( FXF ) will expect you to be the same...my opinion...as I've noticed. If you know anyone tho that works for FXF and doesn't put up with crap from them. You'll be labeled a trouble maker and you don't stand a chance in h*ll ...Once again my opinion as I have noticed..If you know a manager...WOW then you'll be labeled as a snitch for the company...and rightly so. These are my opinion's...Other then that good luck.:usa:
