FedEx Freight | new bids

Look on the bright side, things could be worse. Friend of mine took a 67 series east last night that had 1.375 million miles on it. Dispatch told him it's being moved to Dallas, and sold to YRC Freight. Will be the lowest mileage unit in their fleet.

They actually top out at a dollar or more per hr than we do, but thats it. No OT, ins sucks, ect.

Every OD driver I talk to seems satisfied with their job, though. If I left fxf for whatever reason, thats where id go.

I guess there are trade offs in this life. If you were to go there and you liked the company and they took care of all your needs, (not wants). I think you would probably

would be happy in today's world. I have a feeling they are a little the way it use to be. Not like UPS and the FedEx's of the world. But then again this is the world

we live in and I just as soon fight and scratch to make the most I can...

Any word on the SE losing runs to the rail? Maybe we should just apply for jobs with CCX and take the "if ya can't beat 'em, join 'em" attitude

It's all relative. OT after 60. My insurance is better here then at FedEx. Rates went up for the first time in 9 years. To me it's the same job with less BS.

UMP--I'am with ya there. I came to OD last month and as a line driver you can keep FEDEX. My pay is better both mileage, and hourly. I now run like a line driver 2500-3000 miles per week and I am not a FEDEX dock driver. You can keep the forklifts, the lazy drivers that think they are too good to do their BIDS--ie shuttle driver with dock time, the BS supervisors that then pay these lazy guys to sit in their trucks while they have other drivers load their freight==NO THANKS. Its nice to work for a company who belives in their people and appreciates what they have to offer. We are treated as an asset here at OD not an arse at FEDEX. Driving might not be for everyone but it is for me and yes, over here is just what it use to be at FEDEX when I started years ago--take care of the people and they will take care of the customers and business!!!thats something ol Purple could stand to learn.

Sounds just like Overnite when I started to work for them over 31 years ago. It was a good company to. I think OD pattern themselves after Overnite. They won't have any problems getting and keeping drivers...

Heard a lot of good things about Old Dominion. Sounds a lot like Viking before AF came along.

They are like my beloved Overnite, Your beloved Viking, my friend the good old days are behind us. That being said the industry has changed and it is what it is.

Not only has the industry changed but people have changed. We have managers that seem like they almost resent the good hard worker and bend over for the slugs.

We have drivers that want a big paycheck with minimal effort or work. They work harder trying not to work than working.

If these companies were smart they would seek out the older drivers that still have the work ethic...

]Yeah...see a lot of that...

The managers are trying to "motivate those who are failing to provide additional discretionary effort to succeed".

As for hiring older drivers?

Not going to happen. The older drivers spend too much time on disability, are too likely to cost huge $$$ in healthcare because of heart attack's and cancer. Read an article a while back that the average life expectancy of a truck driver was in the low 60's...as opposed to a national average at about 80. It's in the company's best interest financially to encourage drivers to retire early and be replaced by 20 something's who can pass the physical and don't need all the expensive items a driver in their 50's or 60's does. It's a matter of the almighty $.
