Hello everyone, as the title says I just got hired in Minneapolis as soon as my back ground check comes back (no worries there). Anyway the TM said he needs local p&d or open board. Open board interests me the most and I was wondering if you guy's could share any info on what to expect with this position. I have been driving for 25 years but I'm new to the ltl world.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the big E it's not perfect but for most part it's a good job the extra board position consists of being gone 5 days and home for 2 days I'm not sure what you start out making are what day but things seem to be busy right now hope this will help you. If you can get out and run good 500 to 600 miles a day you'll make some good money.

.4915 to start. Raises every 6 months. Top out after 3 years currently at .5715. We usually get an annual increase too, so by the time you top out it'll likely be higher. $7.50 to hook a set of doubles. $7.50 to split a set.

5 days on, 2 days off. Terminal to terminal running.

It's a good gig. I'm glad I did it. Wish I had sooner.

Thanks for the feed back. I'm glad I got on with this Company seeing I've been a tanker guy most of my career. Can't do much better than Estes or OD. from my research. The TM said I could even pick P&D or extra board. Wow I feel like a kid in a candy store. Extra board=good money, easy windshield time. P&D=home every night and day shift but ya gotta hustle and deal with metro traffic. Sounds like my background check will be done about Tuesday so I got some soul searching to do.

I hauled gas for 5 years before I came here. You'll feel guilty about all the money you make for the effort you put in.

F some P&D. Too much like work.

If they haven't explained the seniority process to you, then you need to see it before you make your choice. P&D and linehaul time do NOT transfer back and forth. If you work P&D for 5 years and move to linehaul, it's like you're a new hire again. It can suck and be beneficial. The good news is, if you start in linehaul, from day 1 you have more linehaul seniority that any P&D driver.

If you need more clarification, lemme know.

My dad is a line haul driver iin Minneapolis. He likes it there. If I didn't have my son I would be on the extra board myself. Why did you leave tankers?

I was hauling chemicals for Ruan and they laid us all off because they pulled out of their contract with the customer. They claimed they were losing money.

Sorry to hear that. I've been thinking about going into fuel tankers for kwik trip. I worked at Ruan to almost 2 weeks till I told em where to go

Kwik trip drivers make good money and they got nice equipment. Also I know what you mean about Ruan. Did you pull Target or Bobcat?

So it is true kwik trip makes good money? I wonder how much. I did target. Pay was really bad

They forgot to tell you about all the sitting around that you do on extra boards waiting for central to get you loads. And all the bunkrooms pretty much suck not to mention the hotel rooms are not much better.

Thanks xhub, I think I'm going to do p&d more or less because I love waking up in the morning. Hey someone's gotta do p&d right?

If I were a younger man, that's what I would do.. Linehaul is good, but enjoy your family while you're young...
