ABF | ODFL to ABF

What was his good point about the pensions? Was it the "Bongee scheme if under 50. Numbers don't add up"? That one is right up your alley. Or was it "the pension stealing union bosses"? They were certainly not on the topic of why OD drivers are going to ABF........ I think you should rehuddle up with your anti union buddies and come up with some valid arguments. And while you're at it maybe you can find out what bongee is.

Wow, you asked i answered. You need me to hold your hand?

I'm 36. You think I'm comfortable with the future of our pensions?

These are valid points, you just don't agree which is fine. But just because you don't agree, doesn't make them any less valid.

10 hrs OT at ABF=$110 in additional money for that extra 1/2 time. $2/hr more at OD for 10 hrs=$20. $110-$20=$90 more for the ten hours between 40 and 50 worked.

I find all of these complaints ironic since the only reason you voted against the give back contract was the ability for the company to add cameras to our trucks. I will agree that all we get out of 25 Louisiana Ave these days is hot air.

Muler, you're saying Conway, these guys are saying OD, it looks like you got 'em mixed up.

Cameras, vacation and outside carriers pulling our freight. I was ok with the 7%. Don't lie now.

I believe Ruffian is making valid points.

Oh ok, so the retired Teamsters I know, like my father are lying to me when they say their health insurance premium cost are over $1000. So I'm not seeing retired line haul drivers return as casuals just to help pay for their insurance?
My dad was lucky. He just dropped his insurance and went the V.A.

What do Teamsters have to with your health insurance? I don't your deal. But I know health insurance rates are skyrocketing around the nation because of Obummercare. And the Teamsters helped put Obama in the White House and endorsed Obummercare in the beginning. Now they're against Obummercare. I wonder why?

The average cost of healthcare,....for a Teamster,....should be posted monthly on your union bulletin board. If it isn't,....along with your pension payments and contributions billed to the company,....your steward isn't doing his job. So.....as posted in W. Penna. , the healthcare , per employee/ family....one size fits all,.....is $ 1375.85 per month. If you retire, or get fired, or get laid off,....the COBRA law requires the company to offer a reduced benefit plan at a reduced price as an option. The reduced plan here is about $1175.00 a month with no dental or eye care.,......Big,....as they say,....deal....The Affordable Care Act will allow retirees,....on their adjusted income as a retiree,......to shop on the healthcare exchange sites for a cheaper, tailor-made plan. One of our recent retirees,....at age 59,....far too young for Medicare,......"shopped" on the site, and got comparable health care for just him,...(his wife is still working, and has her own...),...at about $583.00 a month. We have a $475.00 subsidy for retirees until Medicare age,....so,...essentially,...he will pay about $9.00 a month for healthcare if he rejects the COBRA insurance and applies through the Obamacare web site, and uses the $475.00 subsidy...............All the screaming and hand-wringing,.....50 votes to de-fund Obamacare in the House,....is being done by the special interests.....Your boss/employer loves having control of your health care, especially if you're non-Union. That control buys him a quiet, subservient work force that doesn't dare organize,.....because they're afraid to lose their health care. I've been on organizing drives, and I wish I had a nickel for every non-union guy who'd like to organize, but was scared of losing family coverage. The insurance companies want it de-funded because it's a lot easier to walk into a factory,..... ask how many employees,.....and write one health care plan for a thousand employees,.....instead of having to write a thousand health care plans tailor-made for each employee. In case anyone hasn't noticed,....the big tipoff is that,....in spite of 50 votes to repeal Obamacare,.....the Republicans STILL haven't offered a viable "Plan B",....their answer is just to go back to the way it was:......rising costs,....deteriorating coverage,....selective denial of benefits.........So,.....when I hear my local Congressman bloviating about how he should be re-elected because he "Voted 50 times to De-Fund Obamacare!",....I wonder who does he consider his constituency? The voters?.....Or the special interests that fund his campaign? A Prediction,....if you will. Just as your mailbox is flooded now with Prudential,State Farm, and Geico,....all wanting you to switch your car insurance because they'll give you a cheaper rate,......In about two years , your mailbox will be overflowing with HEALTH INSURERS wanting you to do the same with your health care. Yes,......the Affordable Care Act is flawed,.......it ain't perfect,.........but it has set into motion COMPETITIVENESS in the health insurer industry, for the first time,........And, believe me,.....the insurers are doing their damndest to reverse the process, and go back tpo where they,.....and your employer,....control your health care. Think for yourself. Don't listen to the propaganda spewing out of the radio.........

Oh,....by the way,.....Anyone know which Fed-Ex terminal in the Midwest just organized? That's the real reason I got on here,....to find that out,...or squelch the rumor.........I didn't want to get drawn into a long polemic about the fallacies purported about Obamacare,....but I can't stand it when people merely parrot whatever they heard on talk radio,......without opening their eyes, and doing some basic research,......very basic,...in this case. And.........anyone that talks about Obamacare,...and doesn't know what the "Citizen's United" ruling from the Supreme Court is, ...or the "McCutcheon vs. the FEC" ruling from the same Solons of Justice,.......should be slapped upside the head with a two-week-old mackerel,.....a smelly, runny one.....

Oh,....by the way,.....Anyone know which Fed-Ex terminal in the Midwest just organized? ..

I knew there was a campaign to do so im Kansas City, but I haven't heard they were successful. That would be great news if it's true. I haven't seen a thing down on our forum about it.

Where does that $475.00 subsidy come from? The cost and availability of retiree health care from one's respective Teamsters Healthcare Fund will vary from fund to fund and mine, for one, has none.

P.S. If there was a successful Teamsters drive at Fedex it should be posted on their website. I'll take a peek and see what I find.

Currently at OD and yes they "lay off" but when I was supervisor it was stated basically they will never be called back they could reapply when hiring again. The insurance is around 75 a week but when adding dental vision and short long term disability it comes to be around 98 a week. I don't get sucked into we are OD propaganda just do my job and go home to my family. FYI its not all roses and unicorns here probably why I am thankful for interview at UPS Freight. I know it won't be perfect there either but will be compensated for all work I do

Obviously you're believing the White House talking points. Why? This Administration has been proven to be lairs. Lied about Obummercare, Benghazi, the V.A. deal, the IRS scandal, and so on.

Plus going back to the status quo is a plan B. But that's not really the case. The Republicans have offered up their own replacement.

Brother ABFer,...The $475.00 subsidy is specific to Joint Council #40,....Western Pennsylvania. I think ABF deals with about 15 different pension plans, and about the same amount for H&W plans. Each one has benefits that are decided on by the local Trustees of each Fund,...and they all have some different provisions. We're lucky enough to have retained the $475.00 subsidy even though our plan is in "endangered" status. The Trustees have already imposed a Ten Year Rehabilitation Plan, as required by the Pension Protection Act of 2006.

Didn't find anything on it.

And....Thank you, too, Brother ABFer.......Yeah, I looked on there , too. Teamsters site, and TDU's. Nothing. There is a rumor running around, though, that a large Midwestern facility had organized. As Brother Truckdriver79 had heard,.....something's going on somewhere out there. Anyone else?

Remember the Walter Reed hospital scandal in 2005?
Wha wha whatttt????? Noooooooooo no way, that was all huffing and puffing by the left wing libs. I mean...that was during the GW Bush era wasn't it? How dare you even think about that, let alone remember it!!!!!!

It didn't take much to derail this thread. Just 1 post from an OD apologist got the ball rolling and then stoney took over and spearheaded the anti Obama/union attack. I'm just as guilty of going off topic and it's been a pretty good run.........I'm happy because I finally have backup to my claim that ODFL does use economic terminations instead of layoffs. ODFL does use RIF's without regard to employee company seniority...... I'm happy because once again the moderator has allowed a thread to stray off topic even though it was meant to attack our union........I'm happy because it shows we're not afraid to air our dirty laundry and have nothing to hide like they do over on the OD forum.

Ok Stoney you finally managed to **** me off with your uninformed BS. The "administration" had absolutely nothing to do with what happened at the VA. The VA in question made their own problems. Your problem is you listen to talk radio and believe it all to be gospel, just like canary said do some basic research. Get off your fat ass, put your "smart phone " down and go and talk to some vets that have VA care and they will tell you it's not perfect but it's way better than anything on the outside, Yeah I know your dad is a vet (according to you ) so start there, ask him why if it's so f,,ing bad he stays when he has a choice? Don't tell me he can't afford it. A lot of vets don't have that luxury. I have choices and I stay because the care is second to NONE. Again, do the research .

Before you open you're big mouth, learn to read. I said the Administration lied about the V.A. deal, I didn't say they caused the problems.
Obama knew about about the problems since 08, he promised to fix the problems and never did. Then he had the nerve to say he learned about the problems from the news just this year!? He lied! Your Marxist hero lied. Just one lie in a long list of lies.

Ya some choice my dad has. Either pay the $1200 insurance or go with the VA, and get insurance he earned by fighting two tours of duties in Vietnam. Trust me, it's a concern to all of us that my dad gets the care he's been promised from the VA. Hopefully my dad stays one of the lucky ones.
And why would I lie about my father being a Vietnam Vet?
