Hello! New to this forum. I have started to apply for otr again. It has been 9 years since my last driving job. I have been unemployed for 3 years now due to the fact in my town jobs are few and far between and my girl can make more monet working than I can driving a truck here, so I have been "mr. mom". When there is a driving job that appears, for 8-9 bucks an hour, I dont think so. I do go and apply but it is hard when you are 1 out of 100 who apply and have been unemployed for so long. Anyway, crst, I know,I know, but I have to take what I can get at this point. They have said they will hire me even with my unemployment situation. I do have a black mark about 8 years ago, not an accident, it is not on my dac and crst says they do not care about anything except the past three years. I was told in an email that they will not check an employer over the three year mark. Wonder if that's true. My background release paper only states anything preceding three years prior to the date on the form.. I am not a felon or sexual offender or a murderer even though I think sometimes that would make it easier, I just made a mistake back in a reckless time in my life. Just looking for someone to give me a break. I dont want to be president , just want to drive a truck. Is it become that hard? 10 years ago when I did this my phone would not stop ringing with recruiter calls. Guess things have changed. Any helpful advice would be appreciated

i don't blame you, when it is now nearly $10 per hour for minimum wage in many states.

9 years IS a long time to not have driven as you should be aware of. many things have changed. also just being unemployed doesn't work in your favor either. even a janitor's job would have looked better than unemployment.

well, CRST, i am sure you know of thier reputation, i think what they will do is "re-train" you, whether or not they make you pay, i do not know, but i surmise you will. be forewarned too, that you could end up with a lease operator and get shafted again. But, if as of right now, they are the only one's will to hire you, then i say go for it, get it done, and either move on, or stay there.

all they have to do is "make an attempt" to contact your employers. as for the "black mark"...i do not care what it is, as long as it ain't criminal, and that long ago (although some want to see a 10 year span for "black marks"

well, yes, a few short years ago, everyone's phone would be ringing off the hook, not much anymore.

insurance companies pretty much dictate nowadays.

you will get that break, but when and how and who..?? right now, CRST i guess as you say.

remember too that ALL recruiters are nothing more than liars, and seat fillers. all they care about is "the numbers" they can show the company, whether or not you actually get hired, remains to be seen.

they may send you a bus ticket, maybe not. get to them on your own, cuz if they kick you out, you can get back home on your own, as you will have to.

it's when you get to orientation that they do a FULL check on you, 10 years...remember..???

anything they find "wrong" with you, your background, etc, you're history...

the recruiter stills get's his/her commission, and get's the next victim..

remember....even Pinocchio had a growing nose when he lied...... and many recruiters....are sons and daughter's of Pinocchio....

Yes they are going to retrain me. Not that I forgot how to drive a truck but if that's what I have to do I will. The ol recruiter game I know. This is why I tried to get them to check my info before I commit. I am providing my own way there, and have fallback fund to get myself home if that should arise. I don't do the gray dog, one time was enough that I learned my lesson. If you can believe a bus ticket was more than a one way flight I found and I wouldn't have 3 days on a bus. I know the 10 years thing but I am hoping that since there is nothing on the dac, because that's where it would be, I will make it. I have learned that sometimes full disclosure up front burns that bridge unnecessarily. I appreciate your honest answer, because most of the time on these forums all I get is smart a** answers or someone bashing this or that about a company. I know the business and I know what companies do and say. Always with a grain of salt.. Hopefully my nose wont have to do any growing..

don't get me started on the grey dog...dear God...and thank God for credit cards and flying...

no, you didn't forget to drive, neither did any of the hundreds of drivers that left the industry for a while and wanted to get back in..what a rude awakening it is, when some schmuck tells you that "the insurance companies require this"....

how come when someone stays away from say....food shopping, we don't have to go through a re-training program.>??

i never forgot how to look for the free samples...have you.>??

DAC, is and always will be a nonsense POS company.

frankly, i would just be up front, (lessens the baseball bat to the back of the head), rather than to be quiet, then they find out...and well....here comes that bat..>!!!!!

good luck, keep us informed...

just remember, even though you do know how to drive, and how to handle the road and it's inconveniences of life, your driver-trainer will still think that he is God..

let him think that....

cuz after all....

you need a good laugh every now and then......:LMAO:
