NHS for Teamsters 776

I hear bits and pieces of all different kinds of stories coming from drivers of different domiciles telling me that meetings are being held, cards are being signed, and change is slowly coming. I've been in touch with our local organizer who is telling me that the national heads are telling him 'hands-off fed ex until further notice'. Different sites have little bits of info here and there but there is nothing with a complete list of facts and/or news out there. What's the word in your neck of the woods? The local UPS guys I talk to are telling me that this particular guy is worthless and WILL be voted out. Another organizer from a neighboring district has told me that there are groups from many major terminals holding educational meetings about getting the ball rolling and had a small number of drivers to sign cards just to be protected. I am ready and from the general consensus of my fellow workers, NHS is ready too.

What's the deal? Feel free to PM me if you'd rather not post publicly. I'd like to edit this post as information comes in so no one else has to go through this sifting through a dozens different sites and a hundred different posts like I've done and there is a good summary of the replies at the top of this post.

p.s. Let's not turn this into a pissing match about unions. Just trying to get the facts straight and put it out there for other curious folks.

I don't understand this. Look at the other union carriers. They make less than us after the give back. Why would I want a union?

Not taking a position either way at this point, but how can you make a complete assessment based on the actions of one carrier? Don't be so obtuse

Not just one. ABF, YRC, and UPS. UPS is the only one that makes more than us but not sure how much they make after the give back as the guy I talked to didn't participate in the giveback.

And FYI, we are starting to slip into the payscale of the lesser carriers.
Southeastern is a full dollar higher than we are. OD is almost $2 over us. UPS is wayy above us.

What giveback is ups a part of?

Most have better insurance and retirement and they have someone in there corner for when the 1 accident slash scorecard comes knocking on the door. We have no job security here.

The little more we make compared to what we pay in health care and retirement we actually make less then MOST union carriers. And I say MOST not all. If you really researched union compared to non union well you would see it's not as bad as you think.

Problem with the old union companies is that had a bunch of guys that hid behind union to keep from doing work. Taks 8 hrs to break a load or when they were setting up local route times take the long way around. Take maximum times on line haul runs. Guess what you ran your companies into the ground!

A lot of guys and gals that approached me aren't lazy they just want this crazy firing B.S. to go away. We have management in our house that 80 percent of their day is camera watching trying to find someone messing up! Instead of hiring driver's to help take care of our customers!

Bottom line is people want a safety net. It may not work, but after 20 yrs of sweat and blood I'm just not ready for some college grad to walk me out the door for some stupid carp!

Back in the 90's I was against it because I was able to work hard and got all the hrs I wanted and nobody nit picking everything I did. So I felt I didn't need a union. Now I'm not so sure anymore!

Bottom line is I will think no less of anyone who doesn't sign or feel the same way as me. No strong arm tactics here. I just don't want to give my career up to some snot nosed brat trying to make a name for himself or herself off my back!

We are FedEx!! We make this company run! Its a team effort! Good luck to all! Hope we make it through this!! :shift:

Exactly what giveback are you talking about UPSF didn't give anything back, on the contrary they are the highest paid in the country

Yep no slugs at FX everybody is a supertrucker, That's why you have scorecards

Imo, any future organizing by the Teamsters Union in LTL trucking would be a UPSF type of contract. The days of multi-employer pension funds are over.
