FedEx Freight | What is your main reason to vote in a union at FedEx Freight ?

I read an interesting article today. Legislation to guarantee pension cuts expires at years end. The central states pension is in dire straights. The ratio in 1980 was 4 working to 1 retiree. Today that number has reversed. Today Teamsters with 30 years seniority enjoy a pension between 3000 to 3500 a month. They are talking about cutting it to a maximum 1300. You can go to TDU or goggle teamsters possible pension cuts to read the article. It's something to think about. TP

TP, thanks for the info. However I don't think that anybody that would vote yes
to organizing this company would want to be entered into a multiple employer
pension. I'm sure that we would negotiate a stand alone pension like UPSF
has. I'm assuming that UPSF pension is fully funded.

I know that no one in this area would enter into the Master Freight Contract nor the Central States Pension.

There will be no future companies joining the NMFA.
That info from an IBT organizer 6 years ago.
Oh, TP, I'd gladly trade my pension from FredEx for a $1300 per month pension.
At age 65 and 30 years that would represent a $600 per mo gain for me.
Thanks for fixing the Viking pension Fred!

I was offered several different options when I retired. I went with the one that paid me the most. When I die, the pension stops. I'm getting just over 2K a month less taxes and my ex-wife deduction. In addition to my pension I'm taking 1K a month out of my 401K that is now with Schawb. with my SS I'm taking as much home as when I was working. Thanks Viking and Dick Bangham

Let me remind everyone who would like to see a union but doesn't think it has a chance...There is only one way to beat a failure and that's with a try. On another note if we get something rolling and it doesn't include the IBT maybe we should think about joining forces with Conway drivers to swell the numbers as I'm sure most of them feel the same way we do.

Me against the Machine is not very promising. Never been an ars kisser, that sets me back 10 points from the start.

RC, get that fuzzy thing off and get out of the closet...

Wow, imagine that, union talk on a thread about voting in the union.

Perhaps someone should start a thread just for sheep with their heads stuck in the fence next to the freeway.

Isn't that what this thread is about? People stuck in the 70's? Back when being a Teamster actually meant something? It's all been downhill for them since the liberals de-regulated trucking and the airlines.

Dont you think it's time for a turn around, or keep paying these CEOs millions while you work for peanuts.... Talk about being stuck in the 70s....

Ummmm....your propaganda might carry some more weight if you realized that in the 70's the CEO salaries:blue collar labor ratios weren't as out of whack as they are today. If you think that gap needs to be closer you would want to be back in the 70's.

You are welcome.

A little humor for the pro-Union folks that didn't like my baseball analogy and why seniority should not be the "be all and end all."

Saw on another forum today:

A dedicated Teamsters Union worker was attending a convention
in Las Vegas and decided to check out the local brothels. When
he got to the first one, he asked the Madam, "Is this a union
house?"

"No," she replied, "I'm sorry, it isn't."

"Well, if I pay you $100.00, what cut do the girls get?"

"The house gets $80.00 and the girls get $20.00."

Mightily offended at such unfair dealings, the man stomped off
down the street in search of a more equitable, hopefully unionized
shop. His search continued until finally he reached a brothel
where the Madam responded, "Why, yes, sir, this IS a Union House."

The man asked, "And if I pay you $100.00, what cut do the girls get?"

"The girls get $80.00 and the house gets $20.00."

"That's more like it!!!" the Teamster said. He handed the Madam $100.00,
looked around the room and pointed to a stunningly attractive blonde.
"I'd like her for the night."

"I'm sure you would, sir," said the Madam, then pointing to an 85
year-old woman in the corner, "but Ethel here has seniority."

Wouldnt happen. At the union house Ethel would have been long retired. And at the non union house you run the risk of an std due to the poor health insurance plan there.

Don't you have a park or some steps to "occupy" somewhere? It's the corporate greed, workers make peanuts propaganda. If you aren't making what you feel you are worth do something to change that. If bringing in the union gets you $40 more a week and that's a game changer to you and worth all the miscellaneous bull**** that comes with those $40...knock yourself out.
