Can any owner operator tell me what the approximate cost on a overhaul would be? I'm sure it might be different depending on the engine size and model. But just a approximate number would help greatly...thanks

In frame? Out of frame? Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit? Cat is the most expensive. An overhaul can be just liners, rings, bearings. If injectors are replaced that will add to the cost. If the cylinder head(s) are replaced that will add to the cost. If a head is cracked that add to the cost. If the engine is pulled you will need to replace the clutch, engine mounts etc. If belts & hoses are replaced which they should be that will add to the cost. Any machine work is required on the block (cutting counter bores) will add to the cost also. Some brands & engine models usually require specific details.

The hourly flat rate at most truck shops in over $100 per hour. At one time we figured 40 hours for an in frame & 80-100 hours for an out of frame but emission controls have added time to that.

In unrelated news, any chance of me buying my own truck in the future just took a near-fatal shot.
