If you get canceled on your am bid can the company force you to drive your personal vehicle 89 miles to cover runs out of another domicile

Yes I know that . Just don't want to burn up my warranty driving 178 miles 3 days a week since I live 2 blocks from the yard

First of all, nobody can force you to do anything. Second, IF YOU wish to go to another terminal to help out because there is no work at your center, and you need to put food on the table, punch in and tell them you will not drive your personal vehicle, you will bobtail. They don't like it? SCREW THEM!!! Unless you need the money real bad. I've done it. Bobtail, or I go home. If by any chance someone hits you while in your car, or anything else happens, like your car breaking down, or even a flat, you won't get compensated or paid while you sit and change a flat, or wait for a tow truck. But if all the above happens while bobtailing, you are getting paid, and it's FedEx truck, not your car. No bobtail?? I go home.

Don't need the money. They said you have to drive personal car or get a critical write up. Just seeing if there is something in writing that we can go by. This starting to happen to everybody in Hol

They can't force you. They can ask you. If you take your own personal vehicle you get paid mileage and you are on the clock, so double score. I was told I had to help a hub close to us out for some city swaps, easy enough. The second day they give a route to some place I have never even heard of, man that was a rough day. My SCM told me I had to go and help the entire week or it would be a refusal to work right up if I didn't. After one five minute call to HR I was told it was my choice to go or not.

This companies low level management loves intimidation and a lot of times it works because they have so many people here running scared it isnt funny...

What happens if you get into a accident on the way there who's insurance goes up & who would be responsible for comp if it was needed? Here at ABF if we have to go for a drug screen in the morning we bobtail so their is no liability on the part of ABF (we are on the clock when this happens)

They cannot force you, but (a) if your center is low on tractors for their own operation (b)this is how central says to do it and (c)there are people below you willing to do it, then: you are setting at home making no money, and a lower driver is working. However, I do not believe it could be a write-up of any kind unless,MAYBE, you are the only driver available and they consider it refusing work (but I dont think i would stick).

Boy If there were only some rules written down someplace where everyone could read them.

There are, You are supposed to be compensated for time, mileage, along with wear and tear on your vehicle to the service cntr you help out....and back home You have to submit it though. Search the intranet. The infos in there if your local domicile doesn't know. I gotta say Corporate is very fair for that compensation.

Fargo ND has been telling KC extra board drivers they have to run for Fargo if they need them to. Telling, not asking. That did not work for me last time I was there but others have been falling for it. One guy I know did a Minot turn and another a Bismarck I think.

Funny thing is they set them up to run meets with... KCY extra board drivers. lol

roog

Just curious, how long are those runs time wise and how long are the commute times that the drivers are compensated for. Also are they logging their paid for commute time?

Anytime someone threats your job or a write up make a quick call to HR. We have so many low moral unprofessional managers at my barn I have regional HR guy cell in my contacts! After the 3rd call to him they leave me alone. Its either that or the union meetings at my barn but that's a different thread.

When in doubt call HR. Don't argue with idiots it takes you to their level. Hope that answered your question.

I ran road and city for a couple of straight weeks for LIN when I was on the extra board.

It was 120 miles each way from my home. Got all the mileage pay plus 4 hours of drive time each day. Was doing the 600+ mile MOCO meet for them. Those were some nice checks, let me tell you...........

It is a refusal ONLY if you fail to work at YOUR domicile. No one can force you to work outside of your domicile. Tell them you will file a complaint with the Department of Labor in your State. Watch how they will leave you alone. But, let's say they CAN force you (which I know they can't) then they HAVE TO provide you transportation to and from. However, if you VOLUNTEER for extra work, then you have to use your own means of transport. It's not in any FedEx Freight book, it's a State Labor policy. People need to start educating themselves with STATE LABOR LAWS so the Red shirts and Managers won't push you around. Even they don't know what is right or wrong within the law. HELL, they can't even load freight without the use of a Citadel, when the power goes out they scratch their head 'cause they don't know how to deal with not having the computers. So, don't take their BS. And don't let them intimidate you.

I know a Conway driver who was sent to another terminal 90 miles away and on the way back he hit a deer while driving his motorcycle. He told me he didn't have any problem getting his work. comp. I would guess fedex would do the same.
