ABF | Hiring Drivers and no work for the ones they have.

Back in the day, when Jackie P. allowed brokers, it took us about a year before we started to collect on the grievances. Patience Grasshopper! Patience!

Hah, Brother!...You might have to explain who Jackie P. is to anyone with less than 20 years,......don't forget to tell them what a special person he was,.......charming,........delightful,.......gregarious........generous..(..wait,...don't go there...)...

I applied for line haul at the Indy terminal will i get to work or will I be sitting at home? Also I am coming from YRC do I start out at 90%?

You start at 90% & it takes a year for full rate....I made the move 6 years ago no complaints....

Some of the docks are so backed up that they want dockworkers from other terminals to come to their locations to work the docks. Little Rock, Kansas City and Denver with possibly Houston included. Road boards are the opposite story with so much freight being hauled by purchased freight such as Werner that in some lanes drivers are sitting while others are busy.

So far everyone at Indy is running good as far as I know, I have not heard anyone complaining about not getting any work. And I believe you will start at 90% for the first year.

Plain and simple. TODAY'S FREIGHT EXECUTIVES HAVE GRAVELY DAMAGED THE INDUSTRY! And they don't know how to fix it. They are losing boat loads of money due to their lack of freight knowledge. They know numbers they don't know why their return isn't what the numbers indicated they would be. All they have to do is look no future than where the big problem is as far as noway to move freight across the docks. The answers are simple to a freight man but to a numbers person it is all Chinese. And I see great opportunities for monetary gain everyday go unnoticed. They the BEAN COUNTERS have over stepped their limits and now they don't know what to do. It has to be killing them unable to completely capitalize on their DIRTY DEED! Look no farther than the new guy abf brought in that tells you they are grabbing at straws.YOUR BROTHER ALWAYS!

A road driver who's son works at a warehouse driving a fork lift asked his son if he would like to work at ABF on the dock for $13.50 per hour. His son responded that he would not be quitting his $15.00 per hour job to work for $13.50. I wonder if he knew he would not get vacation for 2 years?

It is Wednesday, still slow for the road board and still hiring. I don't get it. Made it to the top half of the extra board but still feel like I am next to the bottom.

Many dock workers at LR have quit & gone to FedEx & UPS. They don't want to relocate their families to Memphis. The company is having difficulty attracting experienced/reliable employees. Several mechanics have also quit & started work where they are appreciated & won't be forced to move. The company is having an especially difficult job finding experienced/trainable mechanics/technicians. I wonder if the company leaders even considered how important hourly employees are to the survival of the company.

I think the answer is, "Not right now but coming soon but too late."

Just look at the new & improved vacation policy, people are beating down the door to work here....

ABF rarely had trouble in the past attracting employees. The industry has changed. Attracting & retaining employees will be a challenge for companies for a long time. A large percentage of ABF employees are nearing retirement age.

I think the days of thinking of workers a "resources" like trucks or office supplies are coming to an end. Heck they even have a whole department named for it; human resources.
I'm sure they are dumbfounded.
"What? They are quitting before we are done with them and throw them out on the street? Wow we never saw that coming!"

Believe me they are just fine with the way things have turned out. The Teamsters side is the only ones screaming foul. They will just do as they are doing in Dayton run all the ***** in and move whatever freight they want. I see it every night I go there. YOUR STILL GREEN BROTHER ALWAYS!

Well they've brought purchase trans. Back to our terminal. Not just Werner, but now Swift and Schneider! Isn't PT a break to break deal? Now our terminal is a mini break. Must be how they're doing it?
