32 arrested, 2 officers injured after riots, looting, gunfire and chaos in Ferguson | KMOV.com St. Louis

I'm just shaking my head after this weekend. This is about five miles from my house. Why do the news people lead off with a teenager? He was 18, yes 18 and 19 are teens, but they are also men, men who should have known better.

I'm admittedly a white man, but if I shoved a cop in his car or even just laid my hands on him I would expect to be shot. Why isn't the press treating this like a ******* attempt?

He was unarmed because the cop wouldn't let him take his gun?

If the cop wants to give you trouble, you let him, he'll get bored and move on eventually. If he wants to give you trouble every day, he probably has a reason but the last thing you should try is violence when dealing with an armed and trained stressed out officer of the law.

This will be drawn out for a couple of years and when it is all said and done we'll still not know what to believe. Everyone remembers Rodney King, I remember Reginald Denny and I lock my truck door.

But what the heck, in the mean time let's steal and destroy some stuff that doesn't belong to the cops.

I don't want to sound ⓇⒶⒸⒾⓈⓉ or anything, but it makes me want to move far far away.

what i see as an even more disgusting act, is the riot and looting..

what does that accomplish, when innocent store owners can now be put out of business, or move away...??

does that act of violence solve the shooting situation..??

does that improve the quality of the neighborhood, when store owners MOVE AWAY, and the residents HAVE TO TRAVEL miles away...????

the cop shot at a teen, who knocked him into the door(??) of the cop car, and was reaching for the cops gun...

he "had a plan" that teen, either the dead one, or his friend, top do some harm...period.....

got what he deserved, 1000%.....

i don't care what anyone thinks "this white guy" is saying either...

i support NO violence that comes from people that think it is ok to do so..

union strikers as well.....go on strike, stay on the picket line, and be peaceful..

start throwing rocks, or nails, or burning or vandalizing cars, you lost any support i "may have" for you and your cause.....

if the people of that neighborhood want to act in violence, then i'll support full police retaliation, as no rioting or looting of innocent store keepers need to happen...

what are they trying to do.."justify" thier actions by rioting, in retribution to the police shooting..??

Sure, I'm a coward, whatever.

Well, here's the crazy thing about our town. The city has about 320,000 people, making it the 57th largest in the US. The "St. Louis Area" has about 3 million people, putting it about the 17th largest metro area in the country, so don't let the census data fool you. The city is kind of like Washington DC in that it is completely separate from the county, kind of like how DC is not actually in a state. So from time to time there is whining about the tax base and what not, but there are city police and county police, almost anywhere else it would be all one police force I think, but wait that's not all...

In the county there are 91 municipalities and 9 unincorporated areas, almost every municipality has it's own little police force, almost all of them completely independent of the county police force. And a lot of them have a reputation for writing lots of tickets, but not actually chasing bad guys too hard, and it's a shame because we can't have too many of the nationally accredited county police, since there are so many other cops laying about. Now if you can't make it as a state, city or county cop, you may land a job at one of these smaller municipalities. If you lose your job there, well, there are ninety more to apply to, you won't even have to leave town.

So even if a bad apple cop decided he didn't like me and was after me every day, harassing me, I'd have to get down on my knees and pray for him like the coward I am. I wouldn't sass him or strike him.

If the rioters came by, I trust my God more that a gun... Maybe God wants me to come home soon? Maybe not. I haven't ever felt the need for a gun, and I'm the kind of guy that if I had one, I'd be thinking about using it all the time, but it would probably be out of reach if/when I actually needed it. If things got really bad, I think I'd find some fool and take his gun, I guess, or just trust God.

Letting the cops pick on you is infinitely better that being dead imo.

We couldn't afford lunch money in school, they gave us breakfast and lunch for free, just about everyone got a free lunch.

If I was in fact, bullied in school, I'm well over it by now, but it sounds like you can't get over it. You got issues bro?

Why don't you lay down on the couch over there and tell us about it.

Ok. Go take on this gang Mr Tough guy.

Sure there are bad cops, but they're the minority. I'm comfortable in saying 99% are good decent men and women. I don't judge them all based on a very few. The general public does that with the trucking industry, I won't be like that.

So from the sounds of it you approve of these riots.

there are times when it is "wise" to choose your battles..

i take it, from reading your posts thus far, that you go into any battle, no matter whether you are right or wrong....

that is the voice of aggressiveness over passiveness.

and some day, all that aggression......will get YOU killed, or severely beaten...

you called the cops "thugs" which at times, frankly they can be...but your attitude likens to "thuggery" , or "bully-ism" as well....

Really fellow, stop being a dick, there is no reason to bully, you still in school? How bout I bully you? Would you like that? Opinions are welcome here and if you can't join the conversation without attacking one of the members here, I suggest you don't join the conversation at all.

I've personally never had a cop mess with me unless I deserved it (when I was younger and a whole lot dumber). Now that I'm older and not quite as dumb I all of a sudden have no problems. I think that's the point Ted's trying to make. Standing up to a school yard bully and trying to take a gun from someone who has the authority to end your life if you threaten his are two different things.
People raise hell because businesses won't invest in certain areas of town, when they need to look in the mirror. Regardless of what happened (and I'm not convinced the cop is 100% innocent here) Shoe Carnival had nothing to do with it.
