FedEx Freight | How much is the company spending?

Too bad that percent isnt good enough already. Corrupt system. Ya need majority twice. BS. The company already had time to prove a union wasnt needed. Now they get more to harrass, oppress and cause fear. VW is allowing their people to join in Tennessee even though union vote was no. Thats a people company.
If that's true (and I've got no reason to doubt you), it's only because they haven't seen what we've seen... YET!

65% +/- of 3 centers already petitioned, so it's more than just a few on a tiny forum. ALSO, it's very very early in the process.

By the end of the year I'm betting the company will spend 30 mil or more. That's all money that could have went to healthcare ,pensions, equipment, bonuses and even in the share holders pockets. At the end of the day the company would rather toss all this money out than do the right thing.

Let's assume your numbers are reasonably close; they spend $30MM that could have gone to the employees. Last year FedEx Freight division spent $2.444B on salaries and benefits. $30MM represents 1.227% of that amount.

If the increase in wages and healthcare costs totaled 3%, that represents $73MM increase in expenses. $30MM would be a very good investment. As far as the shareholders' go, I'd rather a company spend 30 to save 31 every single day, much less 73.

That $30MM doesn't even cover a "43 cent/hour raise" for everybody, never mind increased healthcare, pensions, bonuses, etc.

I believe the company will spend atleast 30m. That's not including public relations they will have to fix once the press starts trashing them. Don't forget the money they are spending on the ground lawsuits and the drug charges. Something will have to give. I also think once a dozen of more terminals file 30m is low.

You are probably correct Weird Dough in your guestimates. I'm just saying it's still a good investment.

As to the PR....keep in mind how many people in the USA that are not sympathetic to your plight. Union membership across the Nation is at a low. Fast food workers wanting $15/hr while unemployment numbers are enormous. Powerful unions basically destroyed Detroit. A group of FedEx employees demanding better wages and benefits? When the public learns how much the average driver line and P&D make at FedEx; FedEx fighting off the union isn't exactly going to be the PR nightmare you envision.

Wow where do you come up with this stuff?

Many people in the USA are sympathetic to our plight As you wrote, fast food workers are striking for better wages. Did you forget about the Occupy Wall Street movement. Working people are tired of getting screwed over by the upper 1%. Do you really believe that the general public is going to side with Mr. Smith and his billions? The disparity between rich and poor is obscene.

Powerful unions destroyed Detroit?
I didn't realize that the UAW were the people who designed and choose what cars to build. I also don't recall the UAW pleading with Honda, Toyota, and Volkswagen to start importing cars into the USA. Im sure the UAW caused market saturation in the automobile sector too huh? By the 1950's, anyone who wanted a car had one. Automobiles once boomed just like any other industry in the beginning. Eventually you run out of "new" customers just like what happened to Bernie Madoff.

When the public learns what the average line and city driver make huh?
It is already out there. Fedex still can't seem to hire enough drivers. How's it going to look to the public that Fedex's arch enemy UPS, pays their freight drivers about $8 an hour more than Fedex does while at the same time, rewards its shareholders with a dividend of 2.80% while FDX only pays a dividend of 0.50%. Im sure the public will be uber supportive of the boys in Memphis, while they fleece their workers and their shareholders while lining their own pockets.

So since you're so good at numbers sir, defend those facts.

No, I didn't forget about the filthy libtard occupoo movement. The disparity between rich and poor is obscene to those who don't believe in capitalism or the American Dream.

Their compensation packages were unsustainable. Employers being saddled with pension payments exceeding current labor costs is one major contributor. It's called cutting off your nose in spite of your face. They flexed their muscles and priced their employers out of the game.

You may be surprised to learn how well you have it...

I do believe in capitalism however, its called the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it.

As far as UAW is concerned, all of the facts I presented was the cause not the effect.

To your wage calculator, UPSF workers still make over 16k a year based on 40 hours a week than we do.

You are right. What was I thinking? Born poor, stay poor. Nobody rises from one class to another here. The man is always holding them back. Pitiful outlook.

People outside of the freight industry won't care how much more UPSF drivers make than FedEx. They will only see how much you both make given the job qualifications relative to the rest of USA. Like I said before, you aren't going to get some major PR nightmare where the majority of the public feels sorry for you.

Lobby for pay commensurate to your skill set and what others in your industry make. The PR nightmare for FedEx vs. UPS is wishful thinking, but unrealistic.

More capitalist facts between UPS and FDX. Seems the UPS beats FDX in almost every category while paying their workers about 30% more that what we get.

The rule of 72 for UPS is 25 years while 144 years at FDX
UPS makes $0.75 a mile and $30 and hour? Wow, they either got a better contract or you need to work on your math skills.

You guys will never get anywhere crying about what the other guy makes, no matter how you exaggerate it.

My math skills are the following.

In my area we make 24.93 an hour. We also get 3% towards our pension which equates to 74 cents an hour. That brings our total compensation to $25.67 an hour.

UPS nationwide makes 26.65 an hour plus 8 dollars an hour up to 40 towards their pension. Their total compensation is therefore 34.65 an hour.

The difference is actually 34% . So I actually rounded down. Where exactly was there exaggeration on my part?

Thanks for the fuzzy math. I prefer to stick with the numbers I see in a pay check. You forgot to include health care in your formula. Add that in and you will have an even more impressive number that means nothing.

You are entitled to your opinion. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. I'm going to.

Wait a minute Guardrail, you like to point out how we make plenty in total compensation. The Man just showed you "total" compensation between 2 similar companies and you call it "FUZZY" math? His numbers were NOT "fuzzy" at all. More like etched in stone, than fuzzy.

Opinions can always be debated... But facts? Not so much.

When have I ever pointed out you make plenty in total compensation? Please refresh my memory because I don't recall ever making such claims.

My point is this... You will never get anywhere complaining that so and so makes more than me, it is irrelevant. You should focus on the quality of the employees and the need for FedEx to attract the best.
