It's business. The company AND the union don't care what your religious denomination is.
It seems odd that the employees of the same company that helped dismanted Consolidated Freightways(a union company) are now voting the union in. Conway is a company that had a pretty successful tactic in dismantling the union trucking division of their corporation. Now they are facing a teamster union that is much weaker than in the past. Before, they were able to combine the techniques of bypassing & union concessions/cooperation to take the non-union Conway regional carriers and use them to divert freight from Consolidated Freightways(a union company) to the point of sucessfully shutting down the union trucking in their corporation.
With the past in mind, Laredo should be worried & look for "change of operation".
The Teamsters are a weak organization in trucking. Their only strength is in UPS.......and long ago they allowed UPS to exit the master freight contract & negotiate separately. The Teamsters negotiated that weakening of the union trucking power, by concessions to Conway, UPS and others..
As a former teamster, the union gave concessions & then followed that by bad advice to it's members of the company I worked for. Their advice-"vote no on the company offer, they can't afford to shutdown".The following Thursday, we were told tomorrow was the last day. a 1 day notice, followed by no answers to phone calls..no contact, no response, from the union what-so-ever...except for those who basically had to camp out at the union hall to get any response or help.
Regardless of what the pro-union say, my experience with the union has given me great cause to be wary, especially of the difference in what they promise....and what they can deliver.
"Show me the money", doesn't necessarily mean you're going to get it.
