Estes | rumors of employees jumping ship to Old Dominion?

I just think most of the drivers that ***** and moan the most, would do it no matter where they work..Im not saying E is the best but I dont think its as bad as some say.Matter of a fact,I know it isnt....The entire industry has changed. Some drivers that have been at the same company for 10+ years dont seem to realize that.

I respectfully disagree.. I think those guys are the first to see the changes.. Now, whether they accept the change is different.. When we got the news that Estes took over GI, I was on an ATL 3&2 and we were all sitting around the bunkroom talking, I wasn't saying much, I like to listen first... And all the guy were saying how well this was going to be... One guy, about 65 years old stood up and said, if you guys think this kid can run this company like his father did are nuts... I stood up and said, I don't think the father would have done something like this.. He never wanted us to go west of the Mississippi... But I will tell you guys one thing, things are going change and going to change big time, and not necessarily for the best for current company standards.... OH NO, they said.. The old man will never stand for that.... Well, was I right, or wrong...

Change, is not something that scares me, not thinking it through, does....

I guess its a good thing that everyone (pretty much) is hiring drivers.Hope everyone finds their perfect driving job and goodluck. No disrespect intended and im sincere in my wishes.

Sometimes, you just can't have you cake, and eat it too.. I learned that a long time ago.. Estes is still at the top of my list of non-union LTL companies... But it's the people that have made it that way, not Richmond....

They use a dispatch system that's as old as the hills (for linehaul). Everytime you get to a dark term., you have to call central for your dispatch. Then you have to call them again to dispatch you. On the weekends, thats a lot of wasted time. My old company, you could do everything from your cell phone: Look at the websight and see your load, and call the auto dispatch line, put in your equip.#'s, and start down the road in less than 5 min. You never had to talk to central and sit there on hold for 20 min. unless you had a problem..........And that was like 7 years ago! Something else.....spending 15-20 min. looking for your trailers is a bunch of crap. When you find it, you have to move another one to get to it. This whole time, the pplnet is stealing your driving time. If you put the wrong equip. numbers in it, it dosnt even tell you. You could do a mis-pull and not even know it. Real useful piece of equipment, isnt it?

We were trying the Blackberry thingy at Estes at one time, some just couldn't get the hang of it.. So it died a sudden death... That's one thing with Estes, if the experimental drivers in Richmond can't do something, then it never sees the light of day....

Like every is totally inept.....

What's so hard about getting the hang of it? Any idiot monkey could do it. They also had computers at the terms. set up with their web sight so you can see your load info and a electronic dispatch thing to dispatch with.
