Has Sysco become a bottom feeder?

I'm throwing this up for discussion.

Used to be, everyone else was used as a stepping stone to get to Sysco, these days WE are the stepping stone, no one wants to work here, other guys with experience laugh in our face if we try and recruit them.

Seems all we can hire are guys that we have to train how to drive or guys that have no foodservice experience, or guys that don't know any better and quit under a load, this place isn't starting to suck, it does suck, I believe we are bottom feeders, I was so grateful when I got hired here, things went down hill pretty quick though, I guess its greed on the part of the company, butchering our incentive pay was the first mistake. Guys that are good and hustle don't want to be here because its pointless to move fast and get home, unless your a golden child, (we have 2 in this state), then your not gonna make **** unless you drag it out!!!!

Sorry Sysco, I'm not here to give you flowers, you earned your ****ty rep, I wanted to retire here but I don't believe I will.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this subject?

I guess i will find out soon enough. I have thought about leaving a couple of times because of the merger.

GT I hate to say it but I agree with you. Sysco is a bottom feeder. The evil empire. Treat employees like crap and I still can't believe they butchered your guys pay. What's your plan if you quit?

Oh man...I don't know if you realize what you started here, interested in seeing where this thread goes...

My $0.02? It's arrogance plain and simple. They know they're the biggest and forgot how they got there. Somewhere along the way someone decided that labor was just another item expense instead of a commodity. I'm not just speaking of Drivers and Warehouse, our Salespeople are feeling this too.
Our warehouse is in shambles. Over the past month to a month and a half our loads have been 1-3hrs late EVERY SINGLE DAY. It's gotten so bad that customers have asked me just how in the hell we're supposed to do all the US business on top of it after the merger. This also affects the sales team too; why prospect for new business when it's only going to add to the problem? Getting off so late I literally only saw my kids twice last week. Damn near walked out one morning.

A driver asked a Warehouse supervisor why the pallets were stacked the way they are, the reply he got was "we aren't going to pay these guys to handle it twice". But I'm expected to do just that? Our VP of Operations told the same guy that he "gets paid well" to dig the stuff out. Another driver (who left 3hrs late) was called and asked to dig out product for a customer who was closing early. When he explained that he was at stop 1 and the customer in question was stop 9 he was told "you should be able to get to it, you only ave like 700 today". Arrogance.

Our President held a meeting with the drivers last Wed saying we were all "a big family" and families "get their problems out in the open" but then when a driver raised his hand the ass had the nerve to say that the meeting "wasn't a question and answer session", when the driver persisted he said he "wasn't going to address any concerns in a group setting".
Our President and VP of Operations in KC need to go...

I believe all these big companies are becoming the same. They don't care about there employees anymore and are pay isn't going up but we are expected to do more for not anymore pay. Freight is the sameway. I like what I do but these companies expect us to do stuff for free. Like hooking and breaking sets. If I ever leave my linehaul job I'm looking at going to a small or medium sized construction company and pull a end dump or try to get haul heavy equipment. Some of these bigger construction companies by me have a good reputation for treating there employees well. There also union and have a pension.

I also believe it's not just drivers that get treated this way. It's everyone that has to work for a living and isn't rich or at top of the food chain. We are all just a bunch of low life's that are just barely getting by and we need are jobs to survive. No one gives a damn about us so we need to stick together somehow

To answer your question above about where to go after sysco,I thought maybe saia.

I have been with SYSCO for 3 months as a shuttle driver and we have been working 6 days a week. I can not complain, they have been very understanding and helpful towards me. Even the the other shuttle drivers help out each other when hooking or dropping trailers in the yard.

Well I deliver now but my wife's pregnant,I need the insurance so I don't mind the work I've been doing it for about 10 years now

I'm holding out for a bit at us foods its a good job as for Sysco maybe we can make each other better. who knows only time will tell!
