FedEx Freight | Attendance points screw

It's max two points a week I believe on if you call out sick all week long. If you have car issues one day, then sick another, then car issues again the 3rd then I believe you can get three points for that. Also if you are late every day you can rack up 2.5 points (.5 for each tardy) if i am not mistaken.

That's what i said...Call in sick for the same thing.

Well its been 4 days of nothing. I had a sup tell me he talked with local hr on my behalf and they said its been sent to corporate

That seems odd. From everything I have seen with the attendance policy its coaching for points 1 &2, written for 3&4, critical written for point 5, and seperation for point 6. No place in that policy (even the critical) is there a 3 day suspension let alone a week. You need to contact your HR guy and not let anyone contact them on your behalf.

They must give written letter or send certified letter to the employee within seven days here. For each offense. How long is the duration that the points are on your record? Are you a clean slate ever? How many points till fired and are theere different pounts for different offenses besides attendance?

I just recently brought this up with a dock supervisor and he agreed...

Company policy should be that every time you get a point for absence or a half point for being late, it should be in writing. How can they secretly keep a tally and then just suddenly say to you one day that you have 6 points and you're fired?

I'm not with the company anymore but I believe you do get a point for any time you take unscheduled time off, doesn't matter if you have any paid personal time , sick days, or vacation. I'm sure if that's not right, someone will correct me.

The way it worked at KCY and EKC before the merge, if they could cover your run, it was an excused absence and you could use a personal day or vacation. This was up to the duty scheduler and would vary on whether they liked you, or so it would seem.

That's the way it is in most places.

We've got a lousy west coast policy which has been imposed by the banks in our last MOU. But thats just YRC Teamsters.
We used to be able to call off ( must be 2 hrs before start time) and just say we're not coming in. We could say sick personal, floating vacation day or just book-off without pay.

But the banks changed all that.

Now I see part of why.

When you guys stay nonunion and your company gets away eith making it all strict....
then outs do it to survive.

If ya join the union we can get rid of this nonsense.
Being punished for taking a day off here or there is ridiculous when ya work as many hours as we do.

Once again when we take it on the chin it makes it harder on us and easier on them....the easoer it gets, the more bonuses and raises they get bottom to top.

Why make life more difficult for yourself and easier for those disciplining you?
Join so we can ALL have it better.

The attendance policy is a load of BS. It is completely arbitrary, they can go by it or not. It isn't until they get your balls in a sling, do they even care. I got wrote up for leaving work early because I was sick. Was shown the policy, and it says..."If you leave work more than 2 hours before your scheduled end of shift time, it's considered a tardy". Now bear in mind, I wasn't feeling well when I came in. I worked for about 5 hours before I felt that continuing in my day was unsafe for me and those around me. They told me to come on in, and nothing was said. Until the other day, I was wrote up for going home sick.

Might be wrong, but I think You have protections under OSHA when sick or fatigued and are unable to perform your job safely. Just CYA with a doctor visit and document, document and document so you have a record of things that transpired. Did I mention document ? And a side note, get Union protection. I know, but I thought I throw a plug in for my Union. As this is just the type of protection the teamsters provide.

Do we have a scheduled end of shift time? They can send you home when they want when it's convenient for them.
