ok let me explain myself very clear here, I started on the road board, 5 years, I had a life changing experience in my life and I needed to be on days, so I transferred to the city, got everything back in order and transferred back to the road after only 6 months, so I lost my seniority twice so until you have walked in my shoes don't judge me, your turn rc, slam me hard

I had a couple "life changing experiences" had to switch jobs! Because the place I was employed couldn't accommodate my needs. Hmm maybe I should be able to go back and regain all my seniority at that other place of business. .o wait that'd be just stupid. ..it's life driver be happy the company you worked for at your time of crisis could accommodate you. And get the jealously out of your head for those drivers that were fortunate enough to be able to retain their position on the board they belong to, by either adjusting their personal lives to accommodate the needs of the company, or lucky enough to get that far without "life changing experiences".

I don't know what your life changing experience was, nor do I need to know.
I don't need to slam you hard as I expect you've probably done that yourself more than once.
Life changing events can run the gamut from suddenly becoming a care taker for a family member to facing the consequences for poor decision making. If it was the former, you have my sympathy, if it was the latter, feel free to slam yourself again.
Few line drivers would have had the opportunity to go local on short notice. If I were in that position 13 years ago, my choices would have been take a leave of absence or quit. I'm not sure if FMLA was an option then.

I don't know if my yard is atypical or not, but my yard has several 20 year drivers that will never be able to do better than a PM shuttle. And, that is 20 years on the road board uninterupted. A new tractor in my yard is anything with less than 500,000 miles on it.

Having said this, I hope that you can see that one board would enable people to be job vultures, waiting to swoop in and grab that gravy run while bypassing all the BS that long time roadies have dealt with waiting for their shot at the gravy.

Should be able to bid on only bids available...ex: city opening or road has opening if you are interested you cross over and go on bottom for year and a day....we can't seem to get this at our place. Don't dream you will just get a union due and thats it.......Work Rules.....forget it.. Aint happening. WAKE UP PEOPLE

Are you saying, Brown, that you don't have the best pay and benefits in the industry? Just pay dues and receive nothing in return? Have you looked at your retiree health insurance plan? Would you like to trade yours for mine? How about insurance plans? Let's trade both!

there will always be a spin on whatever I say, bottom line is I ran the short shuttle, busted my butt with nothing but hand freight all night, city wasn't any better, those boys worked hard, we made this company what it is today, I and everybody else deserves their seniority

Its called advancement everyone usually looks for that in a job. the years you put in should account for something the longer you are there the better off you should be. We all put our time in at the bottom

This RC guy has got it right in my opinion.

18 years here and im sure the bids and board will continue to be run the same.

thank you for the distraction tho.

So just curious? Which would most of the drivers choose? One or two? Also would the road drivers want a hog board or bid runs? Would we "rewrite" everything or are we happy with the way bids are handled. . Good luck getting everyone on the same page when your negotiating for some of this. My opinion is leave these things like fedex has them. .

As I said at the beginning of this thread: This topic has been beaten to death over the years. There is no consensus for change, so there will be no change. We agree. Next topic?

As evidence of that fact, the poll shows a 50/50 split right now. Again, no clear consensus. No, I didn't even vote.

We differ on our boards per terminal at New Penn. But we do have less than 30 terminals.
What do nationwide companies like ABF, YRC and UPS freight have?
All the same nationwide?
