XPO | John Labrie leaves Con-way

the reason why john l. was fired was because of insider trading, dave m. was let go because of some money missing

I hope he doesn't end up over at Fedex Freight like his buddy Pat Reed!!

Interesting thought!...

John has a bzillion years in the LTL biz...and will be sought after.

His expertise and knowledge of our industry came from years of experience and exposure honing an understanding and appreciation of its machinations.

John is not an ignorant man.

His failure came from dealing with a corporation whose CEO hasn't a clue...whose corporate structure lives in a bubble of blissful ignorance. Staffed by peeps whose only claim to fame is what they can pass down to their subordinates...and everyone has a boss...as did John. Unfortunately his was and continues to be an idiot.

(I am building a deck above my soapbox for those of inquiring minds!)

I am not holding John unaccountable...corporate failures or not.

I am the responsible party at my home...setting in the big chair...being accountable for the successes or failures of same.

Setting in the 'big chair' of a major LTL company making decisions affecting thousands of lives puts one in the hot seat and very accountable.

One thing is certain...John is going somewhere...and with his years of experience it will most likely be in this business.

There are always 'non-compete' clauses in contracts of that level...but are rarely enforceable. He could become an 'independent consultant' and circumvent the clause...happens all the time.

Regardless of the outcome...there isn't a company anywhere who would not want to cash in on his expertise and knowledge of the company...Dougie Doofus and the BOD (groups or not!) may have screwed up...

Interesting thought......

Rat, I dont share your feelings at all Doug Stollar has more to lose anyone in this company,If you look it up he is the biggest stock holder in Conway and also remeber he is old school he came up with Jerry.

Dave M.? Has he come up missing? Last I heard he's still our government liaison in D.C. Perfect place for him. Or were you talking about the other Dave M - who is now a COO for ADR International (highly unlikely if he was embezzling cash.)

By virtue of the fact he is the largest share holder in the company as you say...he has more to lose than anyone else....

Rat

the best move yet was to see good old John leave, just like a few others he was not doing a darn for the company, lets only hope we can get someone in there who is more educated and bright in turning this company around for the good.

What if he surfaces as an "undercover boss" and him going was a trick?

Buzzzzz, wrong answer. He would never get away with being an undercover boss, he has hosted too many weekly meeting dvd's. Everyone knows what his lying face looks like. That plus Doug killed one of John's favorite toys...the nascar sponsorship. I think Doug sent him to OD to make some enhancements over there, if you can't beat 'em, sabotage 'em.

John came up with Jerry as well.

I am suprised at the amount of people who think this is going to work for the better.

Remember everyone has a boss...Doug answers to the BOD and John answered to Doug.

The company is now blaming its failures on John...perhaps not directly but certainly by implication.

So Doug is at the helm...gonna make it all better...don't hold your breath.

Who do you think approved your enhancements over the last several years?...who do you think approved the takebacks?...who do you think was the approving manager that OK'd and endorsed these changes?....

John didn't act alone by any means...Doug and the BOD were highly involved...and may have had more to do with the nonsense than John. How many times have you watched Bruce M. (Corporate VP of HR) in a video crowing about 'enhancements" to your compensation package and what a good thing it was for the company....

Back in May of 09 they sent all the palace peeps to different areas to schmooze over the screwing they were giving the employees...

Ssoooo...Doug wasn't aware of this? Unaware of what they were doing and ignorant of the consequences?

Don't think so. He was (just like all the other liars) up to his neck in the deceipt and misinformation that was suddenly and without warning shoved down the throats of the employees.

Who OK'd Black Friday?...John?...Nope...Dougie and the BOD.

This is a Catch 22.

If Doug was sitting around watching the demise of the company over the last several years and did nothing about it...he wasn't doing his job and therefore is a lousy CEO.

If Doug wasn't paying attention to what was happening in the freight end of things...and all of the ensuing failures...once again he wasn't doing his job and is a lousy CEO.

Either way he is a failure.

Now they want to 'make it all better'...where the hell have they been for the last several years?

They have been setting on their collective asses hoping things would turn around...they didn't...erstwhile the morale and productvity in the enterprise went down the tubes.

Now they have a scapegoat...John.

In case you haven't figured it out John was a puppet...doing (or trying to do) what he was told by Doug and the BOD. He was just guilty as the rest...but by all means didn't act alone.

If you don't believe this please PM me about a bridge...make you a helluva deal!

Excellent Post Rat , I agree 100% . I believe the B.O.D. is the main problem . Jerry didn't like what The B.O.D. was wanting to do to the Company and that is why he left . Jerry didn't want any part of it because he had ethics and morals . Doug and John Boy is a different story. They would sell their soul OR their MOTHER to the Devil to be rich. Which it looks like they have accomplished their goal . We have made the B.O.D. , every President and CEO rich while they have taken away our retirement and everything they promised us. Things are definitely broken and there isn't anything I can see in sight that will repair what they have destroyed.

Jerry left because he had to... inside trading.

The direction of this company changed the day it became a publicly traded company. At that point it became necessary to generate a profit to satisfy the investors. The economy has not and will not show enough of a recovery to allow our industry any type of breathing room in regards to profits. Creating revenue through programs like true LTL and dropping accessorial charges was a band-aid applied with the idea the wound would heal while covered up. However that band-aid held a price tag of over 100 million dollars of profit lost because the wound itself did not heal because the economy did not recover. The person that stood up and sold the company on the idea that the true LTL band-aid would be our savior is now an ex-employee. But, much like the witch trials in Salem in 1692, hysteria and speculation are allowed here... and embraced by the followers. But, I'm sure the vantage point from the top of the soapbox allowed quick re-focusing to find the next one to cast doubt and speculation upon.

Know what, from what the employees, myself included have had to endure and put up with since Jerry left i could care less if he was trading inside, outside or upside down. At least when he was at the helm this was a happy and profitable company. The employees and the heart of the company,( the drivers) were respected and relied on for their input. Sure is a strange thing that when he did leave that it has all been down hill since. This was a good co. to go to bat for for a very long time, but since they have had the the 3rd. string in from the top to the middle of the line-up it has done nothing but dig itself a deeper hole.

I agree Rightturn;
I don't care what Jerry was doing the WHOLE COMPANY was better for it. Funny thing , I have heard from several people that Jerry was doing insider stuff. FUNNY THING it all has come from people that is jealous because Jerry knew the Trucking Industry , unlike our current upper managment . All a person has to do is look at how our current managment was spending money hand over fist planning for YRC to go down. Anyone who has been in this industry very long knows that Yellow has came close so many times it is pitifull , BUT !!!! They always pull it out at the last minute. I don't care what anyone says , Jerry left because of what the B.O.D. was planning to do to us. If the people at the Palace had half of the ethics , morals , and common sense that Jerry had we wouldn't have anything to worry about .
