I just have to vent, so excuse me. I know its not their fault, but customers always assume that I know every UPS Package Car driver on the planet. The truth is I dont know a single one of them, or even a feeder driver. They are constantly asking "So you must know Bob Smith? Hes a UPS driver too." And its always a package car driver or somebody Ive never even heard of.

Ive even had people ask me if I know some of them that are in Chicago or St Louis and Im 3-4 hours away from them.

Again, I know they dont know any better but still gets old.

Yous are always supposed to know where everything is,...............Wherever it is,.............Yous are a UPSER you know,......lol...

Everyone knows Bob Smith the UPS driver.
Everyone better know every UPS driver that lives 3-4 hours from them. lol

.......I get the same conversation at stops.

What about bob smith the Linehaul dispatcher who retired last year from CMS.

Could we please quit using full names and just folow the rules? Reminds me of being at work. Alot of rules that very few people follow.
I'll try it, does anybody know Mr. Free Loader? Just kidding people we all know everyone knows Bob!!!!

Somebody help me out here. I met a very nice older guy who was a linehaul dispatcher in LEX. He had a name that was similar to a celebritys name, but I cant for the life of me remember it. Very nice guy though.

How about Bob Smith the contractor who takes work away from Bob Smith who is sitting at home?
I'm sure Bob Smith the steward has filed many many grievances on it.

I thought it was sponge bob the contractor... or is it just the contractors we see that look squishy

Didnt know that one.

This started out to be a funny topic.
I can remember when I was still a city driver from mid 1986 at Overnite to when UPS issued us their newly branded UPS Freight uniforms.

When we were Overnite I would back up to a man door behind our local shopping mall with a skid,or two for a national retail store.
Rang the bell, and handed their freight to their employees with me standing on the ICC bumper of my route trailer, handing the boxes off to them who were bringing their stuff into their back room.

However the next time I backed up to the same door, and rang their bell one of the guys that was used to helping me,all of a sudden reads the UPS brand on my new uniform, overlooking the fact that is was not just UPS,it was UPS Freight.
Then tells me to unload everything by myself and stack in the back, then he turns and walks away into the retail part of the store.
So naturally I call dispatch explaining that now we are UPS,and the people who were helping me out when we were Overnite, now expects free inside delivery service.

Does my dispatcher say let me talk to them,no way he tells me just do as they want.
What I say?
It is going to take me a very long time to unload two skids,he comes back with the usual answer, well do the best you can,not wanting to hear anymore from me.

I do think UPS Freight finally got a clue on this issue, and started adding inside delivery to the Freight bills for services above and beyond normal.

However it was a total pain in the back side after we were first rebranded.

I am very happy to say, being in retirement I don't miss finger printing any more freight,or dealing with clueless customers, without any sympathy from dispatch.

Don't you have to write inside delivery on the dr also? I believe inde is the short code you write and have the consigned initial.

I wont perform inside delivery without charging for it,....And dispatch has never said to just go ahead anyway,...

If they want the service performed they pay!!

"But the other driver always carries it up 3 flights of stairs labels it and puts it on the shelves for free!"

Yes after my TM,and dispatcher finally got it together that performing extra services free, which were expected of from the parcel end,we started writing any extras on our bills.
But it was the time between when we were first rebranded till our management saw we were losing a lot of revenue,by delivering freight like parcel.
I worked in the city 20 years with Overnite, and only 3 years as UPS Freight,so what I am trying to get a cross was the transition between Overnite to UPS freight was very difficult.
The customers were used to free inside deliveries from parcel, and then expected we freight hauler where going to do the same.

We were bought in 2005,I think it was a year before we were rebranded,so by now every customer must be well aware of UPS Freight,UPS's freight division hauls heavy freight, and parcel is small packages.
I was just posting the time in between, going from Overnite to UPS Freight was a hard time re-educating the customers about the difference between freight and parcel.

what i would like to know is,ups is suppose to be so big and got so much money, why have they continue to ride around with OVERNITE on there trailers and still sporting the old grey and blue trucks. and as for charging the customers for extra services, they will just go to some where else where they wont be charged.look at what the company charges for liftgate services and seems like all R&L drivers have a lift gate on there trucks.

Simple backstrap,we all know UPS is a global company, they spend their money to make more money.
They are not going to throw any money away rebranding any old junk.
They will just keep replacing equipment which the replacements will have the brand when it is put into service.
