:woohoo1:
The truck ban is welcome news to motorcyclists and sports car enthusiasts who flock to the mountain road famous for its 318 curves in 11 miles running along the western edge of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

:wee:
In all fairness, they could/should allow 28' Pups, but that would exceed the 30' limit, it seems.

With the way these sport bike guys run thru there they should ban them as well!!

At least the "sport bike guys" generally keep it in their lane... And NOT encroach the oncoming lane, except to "safely" pass. :poke:

I've seen a few of of them riding way above their skills, we were there a couple years ago and almost got hit head on, and he was hauling ass!!!!! Most try to adhere to the rules but the real young ones can get a little out of hand!!

Agreed... I have to say the same applies to guys on cruisers too. Generally, the tendency to ride over ones head, involves group rides, regardless of the type of bike. Cars too.

I could post video, showing 1st hand, that many should learn to ride well, before challenging the Dragon...

Great road, if caught at the right time, with minimal traffic. Otherwise, it's best to avoid, imho.

Yea I agree, seen several baggers on there side in the ditch!! Most of them with passengers!! It is a nice ride early in the morning, we always take the back roads back!!

I've never been, but I've seen video footage of sport bikes missing trucks by a hair out on The Dragon. Don't know why trucks weren't banned from there years ago...a tractor trailer unit has no business going up a road that tight

The way I understand it, being a US highway, it (oddly enough) falls under the ‘‘Federal Aviation Administration Authorization Act of 1994’’.

The wording is somewhat conflicting. On one hand prohibiting States, on the other hand, allowing.

‘‘(1) GENERAL RULE.—Except as provided in paragraphs (2) and (3), a State, political subdivision of a State, or political
authority of 2 or more States may not enact or enforce a
law, regulation, or other provision having the force and effect
of law related to a price, route, or service of any motor carrier

(other than a carrier affiliated with a direct air carrier covered
by section 41713(b)(4) of this title) or any motor private carrier
with respect to the transportation of property. ‘‘(2) MATTERS NOT COVERED.—Paragraph (1)— ‘‘(A) shall not restrict the safety regulatory authority
of a State with respect to motor vehicles, the authority
of a State to impose highway route controls or limitations
based on the size or weight of the motor vehicle or the
hazardous nature of the cargo, or the authority of a State
to regulate motor carriers with regard to minimum
amounts of financial responsibility relating to insurance
requirements and self-insurance authorization; and
‘‘(B) does not apply to the transportation of household
goods."

Yep, take it to the track if you want to push it.
That is, quite possibly, the best advice for anyone who enjoys high performance vehicles, especially motorcycles. Amazing what can be learned in a day or two on a track. Actually safer than the street. No trees, no Cop, no gravel, no "guardrails", and all traffic is going the same direction.
