WOW!, I worked for 30 years for one company that was sold twice, then I retired, then the last company went broke, closed the doors. My pension was fully paid in, However I am now an " ORPHAN". Which means I along with thousands of others, Will be hit with the cuts 1st and hardest. I feel special, lets hear from other ORPHANS to hear how they feel.

Call Al Nelson tomorrow morning at CSPF in Rosemont IL, and ask
images

him who's going to get cut and how much!

after being an o/o for a decade I went into management. My company closed. I went City/dock at @preston. 12 years later they closed. Went to Yellow. 10 years there, laid off. (6 months before it became YRC). Called back, resigned rather than report. Before YRC.

I have a letter from cspf a year- 4 of them, saying I can dtaw 2455 a yr at age 62 (I'm almost 61). Last month cspf wrote and said 'my employer' had missed payments, so I get to work til 65. I never worked a day at YRC. My company never missed a payment. So, I actually have no idea what I am (don't believe what many on here think- its not orphan...)

Good thing I'm healthy and enjoy my job. SSI is scheduled to go broke when I'm eligible too..

Will do, Thanks buddy, I will remind him that he published, a 30% across the board would be good ! Think he will tell me the truth?

You know Freightmaster 1 I should feel bad, that I had bad thoughts on that. However I have five or six letters from previous years , telling me that anyone who retired before 2008, would not receive any pay cuts, if they were ever imposed. My gut tells me this all went out the window, when miller and kline broke into my pension and want to steal what they had no business in. I promise you, I will call in the am and ask the questions. You will be the first to find out what he says after my WIFE, she is my saving grace, ( she planned for this day ).

You folks make some very valid points. My dad had 24 years with Trans-American (which was later bought out by P-I-E). When they went out, he was able to finish his last 6 years at Yellow.

Does that make him an orphan? (He retired before the YRC merge).

Who actually came up with this term "orphans" ?? You put your time in. I believe it has to do with UPS's withdrawal from the CSPF. How convenient that language was actually put into the bill saving UPS up to 2 billion dollars.. All these politicians that voted yes should be spending quality time with Bernie Madoff because in reality they aren't any different..

The majority of these long gone truck lines were domiciled in the area serviced by the CSPF.

You folks make some very valid points. My dad had 24 years with Trans-American (which was later bought out by P-I-E). When they went out, he was able to finish his last 6 years at Yellow.

Does that make him an orphan? (He retired before the YRC merge).
I think it was Transcon! At the end in December of 1990, PIE Nationwide was a conglomeration of PIE, Ryder Truck Lines, Helms, Bryns, and Transcon. A lot of "orphans" here!

I joined the Teamsters in 1971 and remember at least 90 percent of these companies. We were all brothers in the Teamsters back then. It didn't matter who you drove for, We were Teamsters first and we all stuck together. We traveled together and got to know each other via CB, ate together (remember big truck driver only tables in the old mom and pop truck stops?) stayed in the same motels on layover, partied together on the other end as we called it
and I hated it every time a union company would close after deregulation in the early 80's. I hated it for my Teamster Brothers. We were a family.

after being an o/o for a decade I went into management.

S.S. IS NOT scheduled to go broke and unless you plan on retiring in 2034 or later (there is enough to last this long w/o any changes)
and then only minor adjustments to correct it, so you are ok. Be more worried that the same corrupt politicians and biz men who pulled off this caper have plans (I believe they will use this same strategy) for S.S. as well.

“If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will.” Frederick Douglas

Read the supreme court decision from 1937 that decided SSI is Constitutional: Helvering vs Davis. They found it is legal only because, since day one- every dollar that went in today, went to the General Treasury and was paid out that same day with zero promise of any return. Its nothing more than an income tax, named differently so the public won't complain. Backed by nothing but promises of IOUs.

The court found that it does have an old age function in it, but that the old age function was never used. There is no account or lockbox. Just, basically, Welfare- from those still working to those, for whatever reason, are no longer working. SSI Disability is Scheduled to go broke in 18 months. Next comes Medicare in about that same time. SSI, using the Helvering scenario, 'went vroke' in 1935.

Its all nothing but faith in our dollar. There isn't enough combined wealth in the entire world to back our promises of entitlements, well over 100 trillion. Sieze all the world wealth and its approx 60 trillion. The Fed just gave up trying to get our bonds to sell, and simply added one trillion to our debt on Thanksgiving, with nothing to back it up.....

You believe in the SSI IOUs, apparently. Who will repay those, and how? Same ones who repay CSPF. No one...

Jimmy, you're spot on. One other caveat to remember, LBJ dumped Social Security into the General Fund in 1968 to continue the war in Viet Nam, so the American public, at that time, wouldn't go ballistic on having to borrow the money to continue the losing battle there. If LBJ and Congress had not handcuffed and then choreographed that dance, Viet Nam would be a possession, not a Communist controlled country and we'd have $$$$ in the bank. Hindsight is really 20/20 and politicians LIE!

I acknowledge your scholarly research but will have to suspend this discussion as the work week is here with much to do beside post and re-post. Let me say this until we pick this back up: What can of society do you want to live in? A society where we can all work and prosper if willing to do so and for the greater good of all, or is it everyman for himself? I for one have been operating under the former, with a strong emphasis on working hard, playing by the rules, etc... Ponder this:

Call Al Nelson tomorrow morning at CSPF in Rosemont IL, and ask

him who's going to get cut and how much!
OK, today I made the call, 800 323 5000 CSPF, had to choose number for pension, Got this response , which is the same as on the web for central states. " We understand how important this matter is to you, however until the Pension Fund can determine the LEGAL requirements that will be included in the final approved bill by congress, and the fund receives input from our actuaries, we will be unable to address or answer any specific questions regarding the impact of this legislation. As we have done in the past, the fund will communicate in writing as soon as we are in a position to address the final approved legislation. We thank you for your patience as we work through this legislation". I did not quit there, I called again , this time I did not choose a number and waited, got a live person, Carol, I asked for Al Nelson, after ten questions as to who I am, he is not taking any pension questions, However she took my name and number and said she would let him know. I really did not expect to ever get through, but she was nice as pie. Then she read me the response above. The knew the would get 410 thousand calls today.

I go with the US Constitution, not a hybrid Marxist system like we've been in for 100 years...

Communism always collapses, once we've run out of Other People's money...
