Holland | Save Our Pensions...Call Hoffa @ 202.624.6800

Is this important enough to Hoffa to take a serious stand and threaten to stop freight movement (with the intent of following through with the stoppage) if this happens? If Hoffa would take a hard stand against it, he'd also get support from the freight companies since they don't want freight stoppage either. It would be a way to gather more support.

A work stoppage by the Teamsters would be illegal and have little affect since most LTL moves by union free companies.

The Kline-Miller proposed changes to ERISA is much bigger than Hoffa and the Teamster pensions. Removing the anti cutback rule could affect every pension plan in the country. Only 10% of the MEPFs are Teamster funds.

It might be illegal, and you are accurate, but a short stoppage (and maybe just the threat of one would work) might be the only option to gain some support. And I don't think that the nons could handle the freight, so it might cause a huge disruption to the country.

This is VERY serious ....and off topic remarks will be DELETED....get involved, Or Get Out Of Our Way!....KK

Just a reminder that this is not the YRC board....super moderator or not....start deleting posts because you have decided that it does not apply to the topic and I know one less driver that will be coming here! I would still like to know what was so terrible that yrc-atm posted that got him thrown off of here? I don't always agree with him, but let him post his opinion and let the readers decide what to make of it. Comments that you disagree with or are off topic can't just be deleted, it's called freedom of speech and I have relatives buried all over this planet who have sacrificed everything to protect that right.

I don't think that he's stopping the freedom of speech. I think that he just want's to keep the conversation focused on this topic only.

Thanks Flash:

The jest of the notice is this:

With the new system in place on the forums, those who post a topic to discuss, and those of us who respond, get an e-mail saying there was a reply to the thread and other posts.

When you get 30 e-mails on a thread that is being watched, and 28 of them have to do with "popcorn machines, dirty trucks, baseball games, etc,etc....it is very annoying top those of us who want information from the threads.

I get many complaints from members who are tired of the threads being hijacked and/or going off topic....STICK TO THE TOPIC, or get deleted....has nothing to do with your freedom of speech, which by the way does not guarantee you a right to membership to truckingboards....Just repsect others who come here for information from those threads and posts.....just say'in......KK

I think they have less rules at the terminal....what happened to just talking smart and blowing off some steam? I use to think it was fun to come on here and see if yrc-atm would get under someone's skin, I guess maybe it's time for a break from TB, maybe I'll go see how things are going on that site our brother from ABF started some time ago, if I don't stop back before I hope you guys have a Happy Holidays!

YRC guys are like the Chicago Bears.....if you can't figure that out find a Packer fan to explain it to you.

What can Hoffa do about the pension fund KK? Not only that. but I'd like to get something for my 20+ yrs driving for Union Carriers! So like I posted on another board, what do suggest we do?
It seems to me that it's a sh_t sandwich and we ALL gotta take another bite!!!!!!

Even a numbskull like myself saw this coming over a decade ago. You can't keep writing checks without depositing money into your account. Central States kept losing members without adding enough new members to keep the fund replenished. But this is exactly what the Central States Fund has done. The lack of organizing, and getting new members to "deposit" into the fund has caused this problem. And the failure was sped up by the cuts to the Teamster benefits package as a whole. The package (concessions) is no longer good enough to bait the nons into the Union, which doesn't add new members, which also means there are no longer enough "deposits" into the fund. Personally, I blame the leadership for this entire mess.

It is no more than a Ponzi ...people paying in and not enough of them paying now so the payee will never see the end of the tunnel. They are looking for a way out and it looks as if the goverment is going to open that door.

And at the expense of those who had the money paid in for them, and was counting on it being there. I still think that it's criminal.

Well...right now people on here are discussing the Pension Debacle...they see the title as the topic being just that, and that is why they click the information, not to read off topic replies that take up pages and have nothing to do with the topic, OR the information the person came here to see and read in the first place.

I have more comments and messages from people who want just that, but are not going to get in an open debate about it just for this reason, so I will be the one to take the heat for enforcing the rules, so be it.

Enjoy the rest of your holidays off with your families.....KK

the sandwich seems to be nothing but soup now.

The problem is the IBT and the Locals do NOT negotiate into the CSPF when they win an organizing campaign....very few do. How many bus drivers, sanitation workers, parking lot attendants, rental car companies, etc,etc have been added to those funds?

The money that was lost in 2008 due to those who were given the appointment by President Reagan in 1985 invested it in their own companies and it was making money, and the members got increased pension benefits until the 2007 stock market starting to crash....couple that with the cuts voted on by THE MEMBERS to be continued until 2019 ....members hanging it up and retiring with penalties before age 65....and no one else coming into The Funds, and BOOM....there you have it.

AND, not one of those investment firms and banksters on Wall st. have yet to go to jail for it.

It sucks, but we have to keep putting pressure on those in congress to change this mess, but you saw how all that worked out.....KK

A lot of people blame the crash of 2008 .. Last time I looked the stock market is back into record territory.. So why haven't any of these so called funds come back.. Something doesn't add up..

companies for a long time would rather fight until bankrupt instead of agree to a pension fund with withdrawl liabilities, and required increases every year to maintain the same benefits for working members. this s where deregulation kicked us in the nuts. every company that signed on with a mepf did so when the fund was in good shape. to go into a sinking fund, from a companies point of view, would be stupid. CSPF has been underfunded for how long, at this point?

This is a great point and question crazy.

The question is........with the market booming right now, are the funds rebounding?
