R&L | R&L needs to the right thing to repair their relationship with their employee's.

you can't run a crew any cheaper than RL is doing right now. No overtime, no 401k match, no sick/personal personal days. Really, there is no other option under these circumstances other than to make money. If they are not, then shame on them for not removing the dumb a$$ that is in charge of all this nonsense. Quit taking from the people who are actually making the company money. Pretty soon they will leave for your competitors. Let's see the office and management run a 11 to 14 hr day with no breaks deliver 15 to 20 stops a day and see how far that goes. Right.

mechanics??? why would they need them, them "rebuilt fords" have made it this far, what's a few more years....

Not to mention the "new" Internationals we have sporting stylish Dayton wheels. I wonder if they put any thought in at least trying to keep similar makes and models at one terminal.

I was going to get a chance to drive one of the 2010 demo trucks in WIL.i think there is 10 or so. they must be lookin at buying some new ones ?

just noticed on careerbuilder that they looking for shopforeman at the burlington shop........what happened? did they run big john out of there too.....? its too bad, he was a good mechanic. always had answers to my questions. btw, whos the regional manager this time???????

New trucks? Why, when you can get a new engine in a two million mile truck. Heck its good for another ten years. Just imagine the chaos if they did buy new trucks. How would they assign them? Whoever brings the best cookies or buys lunch for the TM everyday. It could get pretty ugly!

I have been a city driver in the NE for 6+ years and i have been treated well, i have worked at worse places . Speaking from experience, "the grass is not always greener on the other side ".
It would show good will on R&L's part, if they would do the right thing regarding the personal days that were taken last year. What I am talking about is this. Last year they took our personal days. The thing of it is, some of us were fortunate enough, just by dumb luck to have used our personal days, and were paid for them

Some employee's by dumb luck didn't use any of their days, because they were saving them to use them around the holidays, and they received no compensation whatsoever. This was just plain wrong.

What R&L should do, is to cut a check to these employee's who didn't use their days. This would be te right thing to do, and would show some good will on R&L's part.

As many of you in Wilmington may know, you have a lot of pissed off employee's because the way we have been treated over the last couple of years. Take-Take-Take-Do the right thing, and pay these men and women for the days you took from them.

The increased productivity you see will be amazing.

The way drivers are treated on a local level is not the point of the discussion. The point is the company is using the economy as an excuse to withhold cost of living increases for the last 2 years as well as taking away your personal days and your 401k match and all while making a profit through the entire economic downturn. Also just because its a rosy picture where you are doesn't mean that it isn't hard for others out there.I know a lot of people on the boards have complained about having to do trailer swaps for a flat linehaul rate after they have done their P&D work for the day even though those swaps are city work.Im glad that your experiance has been good and for the most part so has mine but its also clear you haven't ended up on the bad side of sponge bob yet either.

Richard Herbert This isn't my forum and I don't know why I even care but I have to call you out. With the threads you started it almost seems like your intentions are to start rumors and hurt R+L.
'UPS Freight buying R&L Carriers.'
and
'Its slowing down...Gonna get bad.........'

Here you said,
"Al R&L is to me now is a paycheck, and I am just staying long enough to get a job elsewhere."

BUT, on the thread 'New equipment orders' you said,
"I was actually considering going to work at R&L until I found out that the former president of Holland, B Zimmerman is running R&L..I would never work for this "IDIOT" ever again.Glad I found this out before taking the job. This guy is truly a piece of crap. No wonder everyone there hates there job."

So which is it Richard, do you actually work for R+L or do you just pretend to as you start hateful rumors? This is exactly the reason I left this forum last year. Just pathetic.

Sounds like yrc.take cuts while making a profit.all these freight corporations are full of B/S.I work for yrc.sorry for barging in

Its ok bigtruk,Your right,R+L did make a bunch of cuts while still making a profit. And yes it is B/S but as to looking like YRC,thats because we are run by a bunch of YRC rejects now so that why .

No more rebuilt Fords for me, well for a little while longer anyway. I don't think mine were rebuilt though unless you consider rebuilding as in pulling the weeds out of them before they were towed here.
I can't complain though R&L provided me with a paycheck and a background to get me a job with a lot more bennies and potential to go up. I would like to see things turn around as there are a lot of good people here that deserve it. If it doesn't there will be a lot more leaving and nothing to offer newhires to come here. Meanwhile I am moving on.

LOL, back in the good ole days, the rebuilds meant fresh paint, and decent rubber.... not much else. I do recall once a rebuilt ford, fresh paint, new rubber and brake lining,, of course the s-cam were shot.

R+L repaired me when they gave me a job. Easy for me to say becasue I never had personal days. My TM says the days will come back in time. So I give and take. I give hard work and take my check to the bank. Worked at a company before that jacked my pay down and then layed me off. If you have ever had 5 mouths to feed and had to pay cobra you know waht I mean.

Ok, here is the deal...I work for R&L Carriers. I used the new user name of Richard Herbert/when truckingboards wiped everything out.I desired to start a new identity, I made a bad judgement call when I first started posting, and was not truthful, about who I worked for in my posts, and my intentions. I realize I lost all credibility.Sorry guys and gals. For what its worth, I have been with R&L for a long time, I used to love it here. It has changed alot, and mostly for the worse. I am hoping that it gets back on track.

I haven't been here long enough to see it change like you did for what you say is the worse. Bottom line is that all companies react to survive. The next thing for you to change besides your identity is your attitude and be part of the solution instead of the problem. New people like me need long timeemployees like you to lead us or make room for us to move out of combo by finding another trucking co. to work at.

As a combo driver you will never understand what it was like working for this company prior to the YRC folks taking over.As for guidance from the senior drivers, don't hold your breath. Most old hands at the company know that when given a chance the company will use anything they can to replace us with you.We aren't gonna give them the satisfaction of quiting and until things either change or they make us leave we will continue to expect better treatment.I hate to say it and please don't take offense but you combo guys are part of the problem with this new company attitude, not the solution.I know thats hard to hear and most likely hard to understand but in order to understand you would have had to be working here 3 or more years ago.

Roadcommander, I don't think you will ever move out of combo. This is the new business model that is being implemented company wide. No matter how many people quit at your terminal, all new hires will be combo. And you will never make our top scale. Honestly, it would be in your best interest for us old hands to keep the pressure up to return to the previous work model. At least then, you would have a opportunity to bid on a run when it came open, and have some semblance of a normal life. Beats being on call.
