Just started with ABF on December 18th as a casual City Driver/Checker. I got laid off from Holland at the beginning of November and applied to ABF for a casual opening. Took 6 or 7 weeks to go thru the background checks and the road test and physical but finally got the OK in December. I like working here and am glad to have gotten the opportunuity. Terminal manager asked me if I was interested in going FT and I told him I was. Kinda feels like a no brainer coming from a YRC owned company. I was disappointed about being laid off from Holland but now I feel like it was a blessing in disguise. In any event, I am happy to be here and look forward to learning the ABF ropes.

So far so good. The other drivers at my barn have all been really helpful and very cool with showing me the ropes. Has made this much easier to get back into the swing of things. Thank you for the welcome.

Congrats and I hope it works out great for you.

I left holland back in May and never looked back. Best decision I think by far. Now if they would fix the vacation screw up they did I'd be in bullfrog heaven.

I left YRC back in April to come to work at ABF. This is the best company I have ever worked for and the people are great to work with too!

Don't worry it'll lose its luster soon enough.

Congratulations I left Holland with 29 years a year ago, it was a great move. Is ABF perfect no but always remember where you came from and you will stay happy at ABF.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I'm sure the luster will wear off eventually, after all, it is trucking... LOL. The job is what we make of it, no matter who we drive for. I remember my first week in driving 16 years ago, being thrown to the wolves peddling in Philadelphia with a 48' trailer not knowing where the hell I was going. Talk about wondering what the hell you just got yourself into...

Probation started yesterday... Need to be extra cautious for the next few weeks.

ABF has the potential to be the best trucking company to work for,........They were the unheard of diamond-in-the-rough 23 years ago for me,.......and that was after 17 years of closures, layoffs,....9 carriers,.....9 years as an O/O (worst boss)......All ABF has to do to realize that potential,............is to GO BACK to listening to their workforce.......We get the young corporate glassy smile and nodding head nowadays,.....but the ears are shut off,......they don't want to listen to........truckdrivers,.. for crying out loud! What do they know?......, besides driving,.... moving freight efficiently,...safe operation,....LEGAL operation,.....none of that important stuff, like stock shifts and buyouts........ABF has great people,.... drivers, and middle management,.......I'm not so sure about the top. I don't think the ones at the top could tell you a glad hand two tries out of three

:crybaby::crybaby::crybaby: How nice it is to see you old friend. :hysterical: And still the life of the party I see. :hilarious:
Crying? Just telling the truth. Do the news guys know about the concessions you voted for? No vacation for two years? Non union carriers making more than us? Congress going after our pensions?

I hope they know about that vacation ::shit:: and a new skeleton has come out of the closet whilst you were away. One now has to be on the seniority list on Jan 1 of any given year to receive any sick days for that year. This is a new one on all of us. Coincidentally it seems that hiring is frozen towards the end of the year but open up the flood gates come Jan 2. Go figure.

BTW you misspoke when you said
concessions you voted for
:ranting2: I am a proud "no" voter.
