FedEx Freight | Text Central Dispatch

The phone number in my signature is a google voice number and it texts directly to my computer and it forwards it to my regular cell when I want it too ... Surely it would make it easier on them and more accurate When I do VIA'S I know 99% of the time I am going to get a set of empties but my computer will say "unable to load next trip" How easy would it to be to text this is 151xxxx I am at wherever load up my next trip please and let them just load up empties (if thats what you are getting) and let the driver input them manually.

It would be nice if you could text Central your driver number and have them setup your next trip if you are on a VIA or need something simple done while on a company yard or meet point.

Would be better and faster than waiting on the phone
especially when you are on hold for so long, and then when they start to answer, you get disconnected.

It's been getting better. I've done VIA's from ATL (Atlanta Ga) to either CHS (Charleston Sc) or FLO (Florence Sc) on a Saturday morning when the centers are dark and my return to CUB (Columbia SC) is usually/or has been in there with "Empty-Unknown-Empty. Now when we hit CUB before going to one of the mentioned centers and drop one and single on, then the earth opens up and the world sucks itself in while trying to get dispatched back to CUB. The brick won't single you home and if it does set you up, it defaults you back to the original HUB you left from.

The idea is a good one, our red-shirts are on an "instant-message" type system now with Central so they don't have to be on hold. I've seen complete conversations about who, what, when and where pertaining to VIA's out or swaps or maintenance issues all done with the keyboard.

They never flag my trip Final !! So I end up calling as well as I send them messages but that seems to be a waste of time generally speaking.

This is exactly why I gave up on doing anything on Saturdays. What's worse, Central has absolutely no idea how to deal with dispatching Canadian trucks unless the trip was set up in advance. I've been on hold for more than an hour after doing a Saturday morning VIA while those stooges try to figure out who I even am.

It's so bad that TGO is in the process of setting up our own dedicated central dispatch. I'll applaud this move when it finally happens.

That was the plan when they rolled the hand helds out. When the big shots were at IND teaching road drivers how to use it we asked them about that and sending messages. The boss in charge of the roll out said they would do it as often as possible.

A year later I was told by a central dispatcher that they never even look at the driver message screen.

I wish they would do something! Was just on hold for over 25 minutes to be told to give them a little bit.
I just want to know if they need me to run today, DAMN

I've had the same problem on a via. But y'all don't have to call central I call my dispatch and they load my next trip if needed.

The only problem with this on a Saturday is that most, if not all, centers are closed. Which leaves you with no option aside from Central.

I called three times, it was a act of God, on the third time I was able to get me region planner.
Now mind you I started calling around 6:30 am est. 9:15 am was told probably won't be needing you, but if anything changes we'll let you know.

Ahh, no thanks, you can take me off the volunteers list for the day!
278 mile trip one way after 10:00am on a Saturday, no thanks. Maybe next time.

Isn't there a call block from 5am-9am on Sat as well?
We're told NOT to call in until the end of the call block.

Not sure about a call block, no one ever has said anything about not calling.
I'll just have to keep that in mind the next time I volunteer for a Saturday.
Thanks for the tip.

That would explain why I've never been able to get a hold of anyone at Central before 9. That's stupid. A lot of guys are still on the road at that time of day.

I ve sent central messeges asking them to" please load my final trip from point a to point b"...it s hit or miss...sometimes when I get there it is loaded. other times I have to call. you have to send it right before you go out the gate on your way to the via center. I was told they can 't load the next trip until you are showing dispatched/out the gate.
