Hello recently got my cdl and have warehouse experience and Conway, New Penn, Ward and Yellow are hiring in my area. What should I expect at Conway as a rookie? Thanks in advance

Depends a lot on where you are. Do you know what terminal you are inquiring about ? Or at least what metro area ?

You can expect that every day at work will be different than the day before. Don't expect to learn it all in a week, it takes a good 3 months or so to start feeling comfortable. Con-Way is mostly non-union, if you have a problem with authority or like to cuss out managers with impunity, this is not the place for you.

Well, he isn't in the south. So he gets the good wage and OT after 40. Probably plenty of work. We have been training dock hands to drive due to the shortage. Anyone with a CDL is welcome.

If you don't like it here. Any other carrier will take you. It's a preference thing on your part.

This place doesn't leave a black eye on your record. Other companies actually like seeing that you have worked here.

We do work the dock though. So if you are wanting to just drive, you might look elsewhere.

You should expect to sit by your phone everyday for a call to come to work. Con-Way doesn't lay-off if slow. You may get 5hrs or 60hrs in a week. The thing you should expect is to ask yourself in 6 months why you took this job and wasted 6mos. of your life.

Been doing a lot of leg work the last couple of days...have had a lot of good and bad things about every company..Mostly good with new Penn and ward, guess I'm going down to the terminals and see if I can talk to some of the guys n see where I fit in best
That's smart. Trucking is trucking. But each company will have different bids, runs, start times, home time and of course you want to be working not sitting at home. No one can give you the truth like the man in the truck can.

I just hate to see someone waste their time at a joint like that like I did. Very few people are truly satisfied there. Go to a place where you are truly appreciated !!!

Appreciated ? Where is that exactly ? I didn't know that there was a perfect job out there for us ?

I ran a extra trip Saturday, strictly volunteer. Pull in to the yard , leave the set hooked, yard drivers break them apart. Go get my bills and ready to go. You have the option to break and hook at some locations . No explaining why it took so long .I am a driver now. I feel appreciated and I have high regard for the management of the company. What a change for me
