Gordon Food Service begins hiring in Kannapolis NC

They also offered me a job in my area I turned it down only because they are small potatoes around here so I figured I wouldn't make the money I wanted to. In my opinion I think it would be a wise choice for you.just my two cents

I'm going to take it, it would be unwise of me not to.

I am curious why does everyone say go with Gordon. Is it the way trucks are loaded or routes. The pay is not as good as what I make now I talked to them and wanted to pay me 20k less than I make now yo do the same work. I am just curious.

I was very very close to going to Sysco Cleveland. My moms friends husband is a sales rep at Sysco Cleveland and I've had more then one opportunity to work for Sysco Cleveland once in the warehouse and now as a driver, but I don't like to take people up on job offers because if it doesn't work out then it makes people look bad. I would rather get hired off the street cold in my mind it's better that way.

Anyhow I was really really getting ready to go to Sysco and I was advised that Sysco Cleveland well they won't win employer of the year anytime soon and I was advised to stay away. GFS was in a bind and GFS is $20,000 a year step up from where I am right now so all things considered it made sense. I mean we have US and Sysco and pretty much everyone here in Cleveland.
I will say this from what I have seen so far the company and corporate culture is much better then where I work now and the company has good values that they really do try and live by.

Not to mention, 401k match of 4% plus end of the year profit sharing of between. 7-10% of your annual gross!
That was the first thing they said to me at my interview besides how is you're backing. My backing I like to think is okay middle of the road. Any how the boss said you start a 401K when you start working here, by the time you get 30 years down the road you should have close to 1 million dollars in you're 401K. 30 years from now I'll be 56-57 you know all things relative I should have started all this sooner, but that's a catch 22 because a lot of companies don't like to hire people until there older then 23 anyhow. I mean don't get me wrong some places hire 21 year old drivers I know Schneider does, but I think with places like GFS and Sysco that's a rule they don't tend to break to much.

Yea, I'm 37 and my annual goal in company and personal contributions is $20,000 a year into 401k. That's $100,000 every 5 years from now, not to mention what I already have in there. That's $500,000 + in contributions when I retire. I hope to have more than a $1,000,000 when I retire. The power of Compounded interest is Enormous !! Btw, I live pretty good for a truck driver as well. A couple of motorcycles, home, luxury car.. Etc... Living good!!

I'm 26 I have lets see two cars both paid for and about $10,000 in a Roth IRA. But I'm just getting started to. When I was in college one of the final classes I had to take was a college math class and the problems we were doing were a lot of financial problems that delt with compound interest and you're right the power of compound interest is just enormous.

My brother owns a Rolex. Me I don't have anything fancy ha-ha!

Honestly Mike, I didnt start taking my fiances serious till about 6 months ago when I read this book. It completely changed my life and view of money on a whole new level. I got it off Facebook for $6.00 shipped. It's the first book I read cover to cover without being forced ever in my life. I strongly urge you to do the same, you'll thank me later!

I don't know anything about your area, but around here they don't pay $20,000 less than Sysco. Sysco drivers do make a little more but they earn every penny. To me there's more to life than money, my cousin works as a delivery driver for Gordon's and he hardly ever has 45 hours a week, Sysco you'll have that by Wednesday. You can tell a lot just by talking to the other drivers when you meet, you almost never hear a Gordon's driver bad mouth their company can't say that about Sysco or US Foods at least in my area.

That's absolutely true. A lot of Sysco drivers in my area are so miserable that they won't even wave back to you sometimes. I worked in the warehouse 14 years ago at Sysco and I'm here to tell you, those guys earn every cent. They can keep that money! Also, one thing about Gordon's that you won't find out about until after you start working there is that they're big on their own culture. What I mean by that is their values and way of thinking. We actually have mandatory meetings on this. A lot of us kid about it because in a a way their trying to almost brain wash us!!
