Yellow | Why are they giving all our newer 53' trailers to Holland?

They sure did, and not necessarily in the best interests of their employees unfortunately. Associated purchased by Eastern Freightways and ultimately shut down, CF transformed (as if my magic) into Con-Way, and Roadway (along with that dastardly Yellow) merged into YRCF and still here limping along and still employing thousands of Teamsters.
The Shevell family sold all of Associated Transports operating rights even before deregulation took place. They now own New England Motor Freight. The Roush family spun off Roadway Express from Roadway Services and then formed the holding company Caliper. They then sold Caliper to FedEx and the holding company that Roadway Express became, Roadway Corporation, to Yellow Corporation. Extremely well run Teamster LTL carriers that foresaw that it was time to exit the Teamster LTL marketplace. And I don't blame them a bit.

Have you been Googling again???? Or did you really know those facts ???? You need more hours at the Family Dollar store as their cart guy to keep you off the internet!!!

I ran a few casual road trips for Eastern/Associated in 1974. They filed Ch.11 in 1976. Never could understand that arrangement at the time.

It was all in Transport Topics back in the seventies and eighties, at the time a very affordable publication.
And, my favorite store is the Walmart in Bernalillo NM. My second favorite store is the Family Dollar in San Yisidro NM.

My first job in trucking, 1973-to-1981, was for an airfreight forwarder by the name of Surf-Air. The first dock I worked on with Surf-Air was Associated Transports dock in Romulus Michigan in 1973. It was a large cross dock and Surf-Air leased a few doors in one corner of the dock. I was 22 years old and new to trucking and it was the middle of winter. I worked the dock in my cool jacket and cowboy boots. I swore I would never become like one of those old bundled up A-T dock workers. And, years later I did.

It's funny how life can take turns you never expected.

CF was loaded up with debt by Conway? CF/Conway was a carefully created, long-planned scam all along. Are you kidding or something? Wake up. It was a slow, carefully orchestrated way to transform a major unionized carrier into a major non-union carrier. All the CF employees got treated really well over that Labor Day weekend didn't they?

As I said earlier, at least the "Pig" as you put it went to the employees and asked for help while CF just made the infamous, unexpected Labor Day weekend phone call.

As far as who you think I am or what you think of me personally, I couldn't care less. And that also goes for what you prefer to eat and drink too. :smile new:

You must be pretty young that you don't seem to remember any of this. CF was on a give back also. To my knowledge, all of the companies that went out had asked for a giveback already. You only want to trade jabs which is typical of what I see on the YRC thread . . . so have a nice life!

I was on a giveback st Preston. ATL was on a giveback. PIE I thought was? And Crouse Cartage, and others. But (apparently I'm wrong?) I thought it never came up for a vote? I'm told by a CF friend ,company pulled it off the table...

You haven't given a reasonable rebuttal to what I've said but instead taken the childish approach and accused me of being management (gee, where have I heard that before) or of being so young that I don't remember. I guess I was only 3 years old when I started driving TT in 1966. You have obviously totally missed the point of what I've already said a couple of times and have brought up issues I never mentioned. So be it. I have had quite a nice life and I hope to continue that. I wish you the same.

I wasn't at CF at the end. So you could be right about the give back.

You are right Jimmy. ...they were going to ask for a concession then they pulled it back. ...shortly after they closed. At the time there was rumor of closing. ..then brinko showed up. ...he was put in place as a closer not a savior.

Yes none of us were happy with the outcome...there was a lot of anger towards con way.... but with time it has past. Of all the jobs I have had CF and the drivers treated me with respect and we helped out one another. Something I can say has never happened again.

More about my post on my pride and dignity. ... whether any one wants to agree or disagree me that is your choice. ... my family is the most important thing to me in my life. I didn't show any anger of my loss. What good would it do ...pick up the pieces and find another job and continue to support my family. This in my eyes taught my children that not everything is handed to you on a golden platter. My children really appreciate the value of a dollar. ...

So my point is that my pride and dignity didn't disappear. ...it grew bigger

Ren would be so proud!

Stimpy: That was the union, Local 6-7/8's, and we're on a walkout.

Ren: Organized ignorance, eh?

If I'm not mistaken, you seem to think I've attacked or disagreed with your "pride and dignity" somewhere. I have no idea why you think that. My initial post about CF was in response to Snark Monkey's post where he commented about YRC taking away our money, rights, pride, etc. I pointed out that what CF did to its employees by starting up ConWay and abruptly shutting down CF was a more egregious event in my opinion. That had absolutely nothing to do with how you feel about CF or any other company for that matter. If you think I'm somehow challenging the pride and dignity you feel you're misinterpreting what I said.
