The next question is from Rob Salmon with Deutsche Bank.

Robert H. Salmon - Deutsche Bank AG, Research Division
James, I'm thinking about just the -- if you could talk a little bit about the morale at kind of the Regional companies? Because it feels like, at least in the fourth quarter, that they took their eye off the ball, given the elevated accidents severity as well as workers comp in the quarter. And how you guys are looking to drive better engagement to achieve some of the productivity targets you guys have outlined in the past.

James L. Welch - Chief Executive Officer and Director
Rob, that's a good question and a good observation. It kind of goes back to where we were this time last year, plodding our way through that winter weather and the MOU and the uncertainty in the refinancing and all the things that we were doing. And, yes, there's no doubt that we lost a little pep in our step from an employee engagement standpoint. And then, we all pretty much got smothered with volume in that second quarter. So it's just been a continual process of trying to be sure that we're communicating and engaging our employees to do the right thing for our customers and our company and themselves. And we kind of got on a little bit of a bad streak with some injuries and some -- and several severe accidents. So I don't think that there is a lack of employees trying to do the right thing. I think it's just been a little tougher time line to get things back to where we wanted it, for the reasons that I just outlined in the first half of the year. And that kind of gets back to my comments that literally, 2014 was a year of 2 halves. But all 3 of the Regional companies are working diligently at employee engagement as is YRC Freight. So I don't think we have a morale problem per se, but I think this has been a little more difficult to get the pace that we wanted back from that MOU time frame last year.

Apparently Welch is not even close to knowing what the morale is at YRC!! What the hell is
this guy on or taking, must be some good bs meds.!! He needs a rude awakening and to get
around the work force to see the morale problems, I see them everyday!

It's simple. The guys with the bad morale are here on TB complaining. The guys with the good morale are out moving the freight and getting it done. :hide:

(For some of you that can't tell it's a little bit of humor, don't get your panties all in a bunch now)

That's your opinion but I beg to differ. I actually think just the opposite. Their could be tons more disgruntled YRC workers on here but they are so disgusted they don't want to even bother coming on here venting. But that's just what I see and hear. We are both entitled to our opinions.

Did you miss the "hide" smiley and the line where I said it was humor? (And not my opinion).

Naw....that ain't true....I bitch everyday and STILL do my work....I'm good at multi-tasking....LOL....KK

That comment from Welch means:

1) That he is oblivious to his employees outside of OP.

2) That since there is no morale, there can not be problem. You have to have something to have a problem.

What is interesting is he said this during a conference call with Wall St analysts. For him to say that, while stating the company's financial status would leave a question in my mind of what else is he Sugar coating?

Can you say Brian Williams?

Ha, the Morale problem is out of control , right now a guess would be that 95% of all driver's at all 4 companies , don't care anymore and even the office people & stupid-visors have given up now too !!! it is like the walking dead at work , everybody is grumpy & bitching !!! and work comp. claims are at a record setting level's !!!!

While the workers are moving freight in broken down, patched together trailers that 10 years ago would be storage trailers or scrap Welch and his pals are sitting around counting their money. No mystery here.
When the workers are having to deal with equipment that is just pure garbage injuries are going to happen.

MORALE > : the feelings of enthusiasm and loyalty that a person or group has about a task or job. EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT > Emotional connection an employee feels toward his or her employment organization, which tends to influence his or her behaviors and level of effort in work related activities. The more engagement an employee has with his or her company, the more effort they put forth. Employee engagement also involves the nature of the job itself - if the employee feels mentally stimulated; the trustand communication between employees and management; ability of an employee to see how their own work contributes to the overall company performance; the opportunity of growth within the organization; and the level of pride an employee has about working or being associated with the company. :poke:
