Yellow | Come On Man....Seriously?

If you are a retiree it is easy to say. It's been alot different since the merger.
It is common sense but common sense seems to be pretty rare there.
It's not rocket science either. I am thinking they try and make it rocket science when all you have to do is make a shipment get from point a to point b with the smallest effort possible. That hasn't changed since the beginning of time.
Serenity now!
Not that simple.

Serenity is a goal not a requirement. :smile new:

And when you feel all bummed out because of the shi**y conditions on the job maybe it's time to take a walk through a children's cancer ward or a veterans hospital and maybe that might help put things in perspective. Just saying.

PS - Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to come off as some kind of holy roller. It's just that after losing five or six friends over the past 12 months mostly due to heart attacks you begin to realize it's not worth it to stress over things over which you have no control.

I don't have to walk through a cancer ward. I just had my large intestine removed to avoid it. In the hospital three months and off work for over nine months.
I have a pretty good perspective on life and I know there are other things that are more important.
But... This is a board devoted to trucking and all things involved.
Bringing things into perspective by bringing up cancer wards or hospitals is not fair. These two do not compare.
Getting off course here so I will stop posting on the subject.
Nuff said about it. Not going to get anywhere complaining about it here.
Just got it off my chest.
Nope... Didn't take you wrong. I see where you are coming from.

So sorry for your health issues. I meant no offense with my comments, just hoped to put things into perspective a little and not have you or anyone else get all stressed over the work issues. Good luck to you going forward.

I keep saying I am not going to give a rats ass but I find that I just keep doing what needs to be done. I just cannot shut it off. It will be so bad on a Friday night it ruins my Saturday. Seriously. I know I have to go back to the same stupidity on Monday. I just have to voice my concerns to the right person. It cannot... Well it can.... It cannot continue like it is.
I look at it this way.... The customer pays our bills. They are who I work for. They pay me to do the right thing and I try my best. I know it sounds silly to some and they make think I am a suckbutt but I am not.
I told the TM yesterday after stripping a trlr that had two shipments on it that were not due the same day as the rest. Appointment date was not correct. First the super is supposed to check that and second the checker should have too. Just creates unnecessary work and it happens on a regular basis.
Anyways as I was taking the skids where they belonged the TM was on the dock and I said to have he may as well show Tom and Jerry cartoons in meetings because no one pays attention..... And the supers are in this meeting also.
You just gotta say WTF!
First thing you need to do is keep posting. I use to get a lot of things settled on my hour and 15 minute commute back and forth to work. Just me hashing things out both ways in my F-150. At home sometimes, my wife would ask me who I was talking to while I was in the shower. My point is, you have to get it out of your system without hurting anyone, especially at home. Go out in the back yard and give everyone at work hell.

I punching bag hanging from the tree in the back yard may help too.

Well as of last night on the dock I officially hate this place. I work hard and have all my life. No matter where I was working.
Last night we were 3 people short on ob and we had no trailers to load to... No Mt's... Two stackers 18 direct doors.... 5 people to strip tlrs. Dock was blown out. I was asked to work ot while people were taking one hour brks. Super has no balls. Only been with the company 10 months. I am sick of this place and the way it is run.... Just stupid.
I get so f n pissed off.... Can't say anything cause you just start sheet even if you are right. This company could be making money hand over fist if it was run properly. But never will be. Morale? None. Flushed along time ago. What else could I say? Nothing. It won't make any difference.
I am just amazed this place is still running.
My rant for the day.....
P S.... We are an end terminal. We are busy... Have lots of frt. No where to put it. Why?
C'mon Welch.... Or whoever. Get your sheet together. Or shut the f n doors.
You sound like a good fit for my company, Conway. You will not see most of the stuff you describe happening on our docks at night, granted, the place isn't perfect, but we do move freight, lots of it, all the time. We have the most 1 and 2 day lanes of any LTL in the business and we need guys like you to help us keep promises to our customers. Think about it, enjoy your Sunday.

It's hard to believe other companies run it the same way.
I have only worked for one. Roadway. Until the merger and then it got worse.
We had five guys on inbound. We started at 2 30 in the morning. It only took us five to break all the frt and be done by 11....all the early frt was broke because we knew where what frt was on what trlr in the yard and we broke it as needed. Very efficient. Four guys would brk and one guy who knew the routes well would load them appropriately. No super needed. We had one and when we needed him he had the answer. He knew the routes well.
All experienced people on the dock.... And the drivers got off the yard in no time.
BOOM.
Merger..... 10 guys on the dock with no idea what to do. Same super who quit... Retired after two weeks and the same guys that were on the RDWY dock were split up. Never been close to as efficient in any way since. Hard to believe. We were doing it like clockwork. It was actually pleasant to go to work. Now... Well it's all been said above. They never get inbound done... I start at noon now and have to clean the scattered mess up. I don't mind that. No one else will do it. Customers frt just all over and no bills and all mixed up. Takes 3 hours of unnecessary work because people will not follow through with what they were doing.
This happens every day. Uppers do nothing about it... They are just as scattered as the frt. Lol.
OB starts at 3....and from noon to three I get the most done. At three the brakes put me to a stop. Super shows up along with the first shift for OB... Second shift comes in at four.
We have no paperwork until five when the clerk shows up to tear it of the machine. We can't do it. She will file. They will not change her shift to an earlier hour.... She will cry and get upset so they leave it. Stupid. So alot of the time from 3 to six we sit. No paperwork. If we do get it the trlr is empty in 10 minutes because three people are on it. Place is crazy stupid. We have to close it down by midnight done or not because inbound has to start. So we have several trlrs left over for the next day.
Then the next day I do the inbound cleanup and start on the outbound trlrs left over. Most of the time I can get it blown out to the dock by the proper loading doors and ready for the stackers. That's if there is not too much left over from inbound. But sometimes there is so much left I cannot get started on outbound. Appointment frt is left all over with no bills in sight. Have to find them and the trlrs they go on. It's crazy.
Then you start all over on Monday. Lol.
I am dock only. Couldn't get my cdl years ago because of an eye problem. Had it for years. Wish I still had it. The dock will drive you crazy.... Not that the street is any better.
But... This is what we have. I have to deal with it like we all do.
I cannot just turn my back to it. It's my job and pretty well all I have. Besides my home life which is great! I couldn't ask for a better home life. But the two clash so bad. I try hard as hell to keep em separate and thank God my wife who is a very strong woman understands. She is no henpecker. She is retired now but she works twice as hard as I do when she did work. So she understands and let's me unload. I asked her to to let me speak my part and just let it go through one ear and out the other just so I can say what I have to say.... And she does that..... And no matter how angry I am she listens and calmly goes back to what she was doing and I go watch family guy.... Lol.
Have a great Sunday everyone. I am in a good mood and it will be a great day... I have one of my four grandchildren over.... That... If anything puts it in perspective.
Wow... That's a long read. I know some can relate to it. But I wasn't complaint just explaining. I know all terminals go thru it. So I am not special. I am rambling. And I am getting off the phone. Nuff said.
I shouldn't post this but I am pushing submit.... Some will get a laugh out of it....

I was sure, without my expertise, the day I retired YRC would fold. Still wondering where I came up with that idea. :1sm057crazy:
I thought the same thing,(retired July 2012). the next week the stock took a big increase ! Course I live in a "alter state mind" anyway! :couch:

I am very much looking forward to the day YRC will continue without my expertise, input and/or presence.:woot2:

What you say about working with your original group of guys, I can understand. But as a TM told me, to the company, you are just bodies. So as they consolidated terminals, and COO's, people get split up and such. They do not worry where you end up. You are just another body on the dock.

Have you read the Trucking Accidents Forum today ?

We need a new Federal regulation outlawing handheld popcorn consumption while operating a motor vehicle.
309 road driver heading to ready line !!!!!

people are getting hurt because the company does not buy,fix or update anything you don't see welch driving a car with 2 million miles on it loaded with trailer tape and placards to hold it together. :tongue new:

Got a chuckle out of the captain and Coke.... I was at jack in the box getting something to eat for the wife and I when I read it.
I don't drink and am surprised this place has not driven me to it!
Lol.
Its a mild form of post tramautic stress syndrome. Can't shake it. Its real. Faced with what you see, I left 6 years ago. I realize you can't, so my prayers are with you...

Thank goodness I don't drive.
One thing is they never forget their lunch!

Went to the Dungeon (dock... For those who are not in the know) on Monday.... One body..one number.. Just worked..... Did my thing went home.... Gonna do it again today cause I know nothing changes no matter what you do. I realize I have to change and not worry about it. And I am not going to. Thanks guys....
