SAIA | Saia or Conway

The only one bringing up the union is you and now you are baiting for an arguement in this forum just like you do in Conway forum. Pretty bad for a mod.
I didn't egg on the union talk or bait anyone ... I believe "exprez" stated his opinion and baited me ... You need to read the whole thread before you comment. It's common knowledge I'm anti-union so that one comment in the beginning of this thread about the union should be no surprise to anyone on TB .... If guys want to call me out they better get ready to debate. I won't roll over and play dead like many on here. I can't stand the Teamsters .... And you love the Teamsters .. I accept that ... It's only when people want to glorify what they bring to the table that I feel the need to state the other side.

No you first brought it up in post #7.

Who has the better sign on bonus? Both should be offering one. Don't give too much thought to runaway train...he is management, like a wolf in Sheeps clothing. In your shoes I would go Conway. Much better long term upside

Train in Management . . . HaHa! Now that's a good one!

What other conspiracy theories do you have?

Most don't know me like you so I can understand why they think what they do. The Vitran thread ..."My Apologies" started by you says everything about you. And the kind of man you are. I replied to your post on that thread because I rather keep the BS off the Saia forum. When I wake up in the morning I can actually look forward to going to work ... I love this job. I guess when you have worked for the worst you learn to appreciate things when you find that you are working for one of the best.

Many want to always compare UPS Freight with the others ... And that is not a fair comparison ... It would be correct to compare us with YRC and ABF ... UPS parcel let the union in and because they are the worlds largest trucking company with massive resources what they want they get. The concessions YRC and ABF have made shows the union has lost its leverage in todays economic climate. The new hires got screwed in those recent contracts showing that the senior guys were willing to throw them under the bus. The management rights clause written into all contracts shows the big picture. I won't turn this forum into a pissing contest with you. I will only say that Saia does not and will not ever need a union. Please beat the union drum on the YRC and ABF forum because they will fall on deaf hears here. OD ... Southeastern .... R&L ... Saia ... Conway ... and FedEx will remain union free because the union could never give them more than they have today. The job security thing and the pension thing is your only selling point and that my friend is not worth the paper its written on ... Just take a look at the Central States fund numbers. And the managements rights clause assures that if you don't do your job you will be replaced .... Union or not.
I'll never understand how you neglected to recognize the distinct advantages of working union in the trucking biz - considering your father worked union most of his life and supported you pretty well. Only thing I can figure is you're a "fair weather fan".

Just look at how the new hires get screwed in those contracts. That speaks volume.
I'm not sure how new hires got screwed. I'm at top pay minus the same 15% give back as new hires. I voted yes I also worked for pjax 8 years before here. 15 % less than full rate is still a lot better than full rate at most. Just my opinion from a Holland driver.

The new hire treatment and the vacation screw job for the most part. Another Teamsters sell out that's typical of the new Hoffa Jr. regime. The Contract extension at YRC is another example of selling out. I know they did it to save thousands of jobs from poor management decisions by Zollars ..... Blah....Blah....Blah .... The Teamsters are not unaccountable and disgust me.

be careful what you say about Zollars. that's Rick O's daddy in-law

I know that ... That could be part of the reason Saia is doing so well. He has listened to him about the things not to do or he could just be a smart man. Probably a little of both.

I got offers from both Saia and Con way this past Fri. I really could use some insight on both companies to kinda help me make a decision. I hear with Con way i may make more money and get home everyday and at Saia I'd have to bag it for the week but I'll have lower premiums on my insurance, and to mention they're right around the corner from my house, as with Con way I'd have a bit of a drive. I live in the Atlanta area so I would be at Ellenwood terminal for Saia and the Atl terminal with Con way. Any insight, opinoin, or comment would be appreciated.

As far as the original post goes, either Saia or Conway would be equally good and bad. Flip a coin and do what your gut tells you. Both have pros and cons. Probably would or wouldn't get burned to the same degree no matter where u end up. ODFL is generally accepted as being the most driver friendly of the big LTL companies.

Vnomoics is OK I think peoplenet is better if u in heavy traffic and barely I mean barely moving peoplenet will automatically put u on on duty not driving and when I'm running short on time and make it back to yard it takes vnomics a long time to get to home screen so I can log out.

If you're tight on time, you can use the reset button. It will take about 3 minutes to reboot, and won't count those minutes that it was rebooting. Saved me more than once.

Man this thread is all over the place. But to chime in on VNOMICS, if you turn your truck off the homescreen will come up in seconds.

I make less per mile here than what I mde at conway but, I run 2500-3000 miles a week with saia. Compared to 240 miles a week + 40 hours of dock time. At Conway

i was at Conway 5 years (3 driving). I've been on the line board at saia for three months and I think I already put in more miles here than I ever did in three years at Conway. Haha!
