I've heard that if ur called for a run before ur 10 hour break is up u as a driver can restart ur rest period. is this true. I've gone to the dot website and was not able to find this particular topic. a redshirt said that they can call u @ 9.5 hours. just seeking clarity on this issue

It was that way when I was a Road Driver a few years ago. All you would do is notify the person that called you that they interrupted your 10 hours off and that you are going to restart. Then call central and tell them what happened. I was told they can call at like 9.5 hours though.

They can call pretty much anytime, you don't have to pick up the phone. As long as they don't expect you to start work earlier than your 10 hrs are up they aren't violating any rules.
:smiliewhs:

I was under the impression that they can call you after 8 hrs but you can't report to work until after your 10.
If they call before your 8, you can request another 10 off.
I could be wrong.

I was told they can call 1.5 hours before your show time as long as the show time falls after your 10 hour break is complete, in other words they can call you on 8.5 hours rest. When I was OTR the rule was 10 hrs off duty with 8 in the bunk and the other two anything but on duty or on duty driving which could include phone calls. Unless your split logging which is a whole other debate of confusion all together

Every time I hear this question asked I suspect that we have a fairly new driver asking about it. It was only a few years ago that the law was 8 hours off. And it was just that 8 hours off. Time bobtailing back and forth to the motel, showering, shaving and phone calls were all included in that 8 hours off. The 10 your rule was a breath of fresh air for us. It meant that we could probably get 8 hours of sleep if we didn't waste any time watching TV or calling home...or calling a up a local lady.

While on the 'extra' board at Con-Vict, I'd call in at 6am, 8am, and as late as 11am for a daily assignment. I always got the 'well, there's nothing now, but call again in two hours' runaround. I'd call back at 1pm only to hear 'standby, we may need you for a line run tonight.' At that point, the home phone got unplugged, and the cell either got turned off, or all numbers were temporarily blocked in my cell contacts list.

Yeah I used to hate the 8 hour break,It wasn't bad if you bobtailed to the motel(maybe 5 hours of sleep)but if the local terminal had to use your tractor, and had to wait on the motel shuttle, your break was gonna be a nap and a shower.
