XPO | Big secret meeting again

He's much more engaging in person. Very animated. Always seems so stale in the videos. Came across completely differently. A very good speaker. Used a depth of experience to back his points and relate directly to the audience; sales, drivers, dock and mechanics. Extremely entertaining.

Mostly just a recap of past events.

Quarterly results.

The company is growing. More drivers. More equipment. More doors.

Safety + lean = promised land.

All the complaining about the tires will result in new drive tires. I guess if drivers scream loud enough, they do listen. When we see them on the tractors, we will know for sure.

Then some drivers wanted to complain to the president of the company about local routing. He don't know where Groveport or Grove City are, what the difference is, or why you are telling him about it. He's not your dispatcher. And there are about 100 steps between them. Crying about your 15 minute diversion when their is some zone driver, somewhere in the country, doing 400 mile days to get 3 deliveries and one pick-up is a little weird. We all understand that sometimes routes get crazy. Keeping it to a minimum is all we can ask. But that don't mean we have to ask it of the freaking president ! GEEZ people.

Really. No bombshells. No inside scoop. No drama.

That's nice, he's a smooth talker and told you what you wanted to hear. Did anyone buy a used car from him?

Somebody needs to learn how to post without rewriting other peoples posts.

He wasn't selling cars. He was selling Con-way. He was selling us to us. He wanted us to believe in us more than anything.

It's up to us to be the difference and to make a difference. We are the face in front of the customer. Be that the driver or the salesman. We are the hands on the freight and we decide how it looks when it gets where it's going. Docks hands or drivers. He said repeatedly that he can't do it. He can't move any freight from his desk in Ann Arbor. It's up to us to decide. We determine what the customer gets.

Seriously. There wasn't any secret agenda or message. He had a short slide presentation that we had seen two weeks ago. He went over it again as a loose outline to follow as he talked. But really he was just trying to talk to us. Directly speak with the human beings in the room with him. Whatever the topic or question from whatever employee. Sales or a mechanic or a driver. And whatever environment it applied to. The dock, the street or the customer. He wanted to make sure that you understood that you should never ever compromise your safety, number one, or the freight. And he answered whatever question as completely as possible. Sometimes he would start the answer and then the regional manager and then the terminal manager would add to it. They acknowledged whatever the question fully.

He mentioned damages are up. 50 million is a lot of millions. We can do better there. Our safety record is amazing. But people are still dying on the job. Accidents happen. But that we gotta do everything we can to make them not happen. It was the simplest talk I have ever heard from any big wig. Nothing we haven't heard before or seen posted all over the terminal.

I'm sorry there isn't anything juicy to say about it. We all saw the video from a while back. He seemed ridged and stern. Gave a written speech. And delivered it very callously. That isn't what we got here. The guy is very appealing. The women folk think he is " hot ". Towards the end he took off his jacket. It was very warm in that room with all those people 90 minutes in. He has an amazing energy and charisma. And he spoke to us all like anyone else on the street would. There was wasn't any snootiness or being all uppity about anything. Again, I'm sorry he doesn't come off the way you want him to. But I'm not gonna lie to you and just tell you what you want to hear.

As long as that check clears the bank every week. they can say or do whatever they want. As long as it's not unsafe or illegal I'm on board. I do what I need to do & go home. I have such a disconnect with this company it doesn't matter what they say or do I have watched this company fall a long way in my 20 plus years here. don't take it personally it's just business to them.

Just business to them has become just business to us. Why can't they see that ? How am I to invest myself personally into something that is just business ?

I don't have any answers. I keep coming for that check.

Rule #1, bever post anything positive on this forum or you will slapped with the kool aid drinker rep. Give me a break. I liked Highspeeds post and was glad to hear about the meeting. All the BS on this forum never adds up to a drivers first hand experience with meeting the president. Nice post Highsppeds, thankyou.
