Can anyone shed some light on how hard it would be for a new guy to get hours. I am applying to the Columbus, OH terminal and have only a little experience driving truck.

Thanks all.

Everywhere, new guy they will worked around the clock if you let them. So short handed that in xml the city guys are working 6-7 days a week , yes it is true, because we have a lot of lean committees wand they are hungry

Ask the terminal your looking it if they are fully staffed. Chances are they are not. Most terminals are shorthanded, ask if you would be on city or highway flex. Every barn is different.

Go to OD and fill out an app there... I'm sure we are hiring in Columbus. I did a 3 year stint as a Con-way convict before OD, and trust me you are going to get tired of their :horseshit:. Save yourself the trouble of having to start over somewhere else a couple of years down the line.

He says he has limited experience. Come here. Get some wheel time. Then choose he can choose his future.

Here he will be home everyday. He can get his feet wet in LTL. Maybe he don't like it and goes back to running a wrecker or whatever it is he was doing before.

OD I'm Columbus doesn't run bag drivers that I know of. I'm quite sure he can learn all that's necessary over here without an swi. What do you think Con-way can teach him that OD can't without all the headache and strife that comes with being micromanaged every second of your day like you boys in blue endure?

OTR is for suckers, but someone has to do it. Bless their hearts

If you own your truck it can be worth it. If not. Your just stupid. Way more money in LTL for the same job.

And don't tell me about how they are scared to work the dock. Does anyone other than Con-way make the drivers work the dock ?

From what I have heard. The guys with steady runs don't. The guys starting out do. Nothing soul crushing. For example: Columbus out to Buffalo, they send you to Syracuse and go to bed. 10 hours and roll home. Strictly an example.

My point is that he might not want to jump into long runs with little experience. Con-way is nothing but short runs. Pittsburg is a haul here, and it's a four hour ride.

If he was even looking for road work. If he intends to work city he should definitely come here instead. OT after 8.

True on the overtime, but if y'all are cutting all dock work off the drivers they're gonna cut runs. They're probably going to add more subservice which will also cut runs. I played the go backward every bid for 3 years. When those high seniority line drivers eventually get forced to the city how many hours you think a guy with a year or two is going to get any overtime? Hell he will be lucky to get 40 hours! At least at OD he will guaranteed get decent hours because we, unlike Con-way aren't trying to reinvent the wheel. Our model works and we stick with it.

Big "if". They been blowing that smoke for a long time. Plenty of hours. Driver shortage has limited sub service as well.

The guy asked about getting enough hours! Answer is yes, everything else use your own judgement, listen, absorb, assimilate than execute. Become your own person.

Tell me truthfully would you recommend anyone to come work for Con-way? I'm trying to save the guy headache and lost time he can be gaining seniority somewhere he might be happy for a long time.

Exactly. Everyone has their own expectations. Let him sort it out. Simple answer is you will get plenty more hours than you wanted. Unless 60-70 is light work for you.

You can get paid here. A lot of guys come from worse places than this. Sorry we aren't bowing down to your supreme wisdom.
