Contract talks postponed

Negotiations for our contract started 9 days before it expired. Really? Did the company think the plea of poverty at contract time would fly? Standard Forwarding has used this tactic for at least the last 3 contracts. We are paid a lesser wage-benefit package than all Unionized carriers, and most non-Union carriers. Apparently the contract the company wants is so poor the International and our Business Agents won't even let us see it to vote NO.
Talks are to resume at the end of March. Time for the company to get real. BLO drivers are ready to vote NO on the contract, and YES to authorize a strike.

I thought they had to show you the proposal? They can recommend that you not accept! I might be wrong.

Our local Union business agents held meeting at each local union hall to ask what we wanted to accomplish on this contract. They heard our fantasies and our bottom line. The International LTL representatives sent out a questionnaire asking for our input. I am pleased they are looking out for our best interest. Standard Forwarding Teamsters have given up over $50 million in wage and benefit concessions over the last 5 years. We realize we will never get back any of the money we gave up to put the company on a solid financial footing. However, the economy is 180 degrees opposite from 5 years ago

We want to be treated fairly in wages and benefits. The International Union And our business agents are holding the companies feet to the fire. We will not settle for a substandard contract. We will be paid on par with other LTL companies.
