FedEx Freight | Purchase Transportation

I feel compelled to reply on that 10% pts.Because in our contract (if you're union). It states clearly that the company can use up to 4% pts.and up to so much percentage wise on the rail.At YRCF that pts % ticked up by 2%.Allowing for a total of 6% pts.Alot more legalise to that pts language.Hopefully you get the meaning.Without a contract. You can let your feet decide Or sit at home waiting for a work call
I will agree with J. Deere on this one...the use of PT in both contracts you speak of is because the companies agreed to those percentages, no one has any way of knowing what FedEx would/would not agree to should a contract ever be negotiated or ratified.

Two things, first I said I was staying out of the union debate but yet here I am! Second this isn't the thread for the union debate and I'm not going to get banned so we need to take it there.

That would be correct.About not knowing what FedEx would agree to or not agree to in a labor contract. If I were a driver at FedEx.I sure would want some sort of parameters to go by.By not having any restrictions whatsoever. Those at the bottom of the board could suffer greatly economically.Us poor workers don't have a ton of money to live off of.While we wait and wait to get out.Although our situation at UPSF and the other two union represented companies are not the greatest. With the pproliferation of Purchase Transportation. The eemployees of the aforementioned companies above.Have the ability to have more work oppurtunities.Than the employees of a company that has no restrictions or limits on the amount of PTS usage.

Didn't Watkins use some contractors? Seems to me they would have kept them if they wanted to go that route. That being said I've always thought the line haul guys at Fedex freight were much more likely to get replaced, I figured Fedex would buy a truck load carrier to handle a lot of that work.
Yeah I figured that too...surprised it hasn't happen yet.

Not just democrats believe in protection. I said the Union will stop fedex from using more than 10% purchase transportation and that is the truth. People like you will run around in circles just to try and justify your position. As a contractor I understand why you would not want FedEx unionized! It would stop you from taking advantage of your hired drivers. I have seen first hand the garbage wages you guys pay your drivers:)
Thanks for the insult, *******. For your information, I drive my own truck. Of the two I have, I drive the one with less seniority and took a back seat to let the drivers I do have enjoy a run of their preference. I compensate as fairly as I am capable given that FedEx refuses to give us a raise and the new trucks are less reliable. My drivers are paid better by me than they would be elsewhere because I believe driver retention is important.

Do NOT presume to know me or my motives. I am very well aware of the horror stories from Ground and Custom Critical, but not every truck owner is a profit hog. Are you a lazy unionized *****? The street goes both ways. Might wanna get your head out of your ass before you say something else stupid.

Thank you, sir. I believe "ButtWhiffer" is an appropriate analog for someone who thinks his ::shit:: doesn't stink. It's amazing how many of the pro-union folks can't help themselves despite the rules Jeff put in place.

I will note here that not all pro-union folks are presumptuous jerks who can't follow the rules (here's lookin' at you, SwampRatt, you're one of the good guys) but far too many of them are. And it's that mentality that has degraded this board to the point that it seems like a conversation cannot be had here without someone dropping a comment about getting a contract.

For crying out loud, guys, some people just want to talk about what's going on without the political battle being brought up. Have some decency and FOLLOW THE RULES.

In this day and time, anyone working for a contractor that is not fair and competitive, would be foolish. The only reason I can think of would be an unreliable driver with the poorest of driving records, in which case they should consider themselves lucky (thankful even) to have driving job at all.

[QU.OTE="johndeere4020, post: 914965, member: 4753"]We need to be careful here because this might need to be in the union thread. Who says it will be 10% or less?[/QUOTE]
All the current and past contracts state this in the rules. As stewards bring this up and request information that is required to be given per contract. the levels of contractors can be fixed by the grievance process. that's just the way that it works. A contract is protection for the workers. every contract I've seen has provisions for purchase power.
just answering the question. this doesn't need to be sent to the Union forum.

Your new here so I'll give you a little slack, here's what we have established over the course of many months of debating. You have know idea what would be in a potential contract with Fedex. Also we are talking about the union so that's where this belongs.

Does the union stop or limit purchase transport for YRC? Is this even considered PT? CRST power, YRC trailers, I-70 east bound near Columbia MO.
