ODFL | Truckers Win $3.4M Settlement in Unpaid Overtime Class Action Lawsuit

Song and Ken this debate will go on forever, move along guys before this gets ugly between you two and the moderators have to get involved, lets drop it and just get along

I might get banned again, so here it goes...

If you don't want to discuss this then don't read the thread. And if it wasn't to be debated then why post it in the first place?

I think the more we discuss things the better understanding you get. We all have different thoughts and views on things. This board is here to talk about things that effect our jobs and lives. If it was an information board then fine. but the best chance for change comes from us.. not OD. They make changes because of push back, not out of the kindness of their hearts. If we talk, they listen.

Just my opinion and I tried to play nice,

Ump

This is true Ump but if i feel members are at the point of name calling then it is my job to give everyone fair notice before hand. I DO NOT like to ban people and i am very lenient except for blatant rule violations. I normally even change post and send people a private message to warn not to do again. Maybe you would feel better if instead of trying to keep people from being banned i should just start being real strict and ban people for every little violation.

I'm cool with stopping the name calling. But that's not what your post said. You said move on from the topic, and to me it sounds like you don't want this discussed. Ken and song both post good things and deserve the benefit of the doubt. Maybe a pm to them to keep it civil would have been a better option in this case. But neither post was that egregious, just two men with opposite opinions on an important subject.

I think the arguments on OT are interesting. Here's my take on it. OT is paid to almost everyone but those of us in trucking who do not have a contract. We are exempted by the Railway Labor Act. Oddly enough most, if not all railroads are covered by union contracts and earn time and a half, double time, etc. As are most pilots. That leaves drivers all alone on the all straight time gig. It is past time for congress to fix this. As to the argument that OT costs the company(s) too much money bla bla bla that is not true. The cost of adding another employee to the roster is higher than the cost of OT and that is without including the extra equipment costs of doing so. You're how far from your terminal with a truck and trailer and have to come in to avoid paying OT? And we'll send another truck, trailer and driver out there to relieve you? :hysterical:

We good.I get tired of people posting stuff like this&leave. They only do this to stir the pot&see the reaction that get's start'd.First of all this lawsuit was in California. Also,if you have got your new driver's handbook. There is a section that mention's the California labor law.Something about meal break's.I just get tired of beating the old stick over this.Again it's all good.We get paid good money&we all know that clock guy's do not get OT.But,we are all free to leave&go to work for someone who pay's OT.Just my 2 cent.

kenneth, would you believe me if I told you that I cost my employer less on OT than I do on straight time?

But the problem with you original post was the feeling that you gave everyone the feeling that this discussion was below you.

So we are free to go work for someone else, but not have an adult conversation on a hot topic? I hope you see the irony in this Kenneth. You've stated your opinion... let us have ours, thank you very much,

that's good Song but you know this topic can get very very HOT to some

Maybe to some, but you know me better than that. What part of my posts gave you the thought that I was about to start slinging my own excrement at kenneth or anyone else? Just because a topic is hot or might cast a realistic light on the few shortcomings of our employer doesn't mean we shouldn't be able to discuss them like adults.

What so funny is the ones who want to discuss dont even punch a clock. So why are we so worried if OD starts paying OT.So if OD had to start paying OT then the same ones would be bitching because I'm not getting pc of the pie.Again enjoy complaining&discussion .Sorry, but this forum is getting like the rest.We got guy's who have left the OT paying companys to work for OD.That tells me something that they must dont give a rat's rear about OT.I enjoy working for OD because I'm me&not a number.I'm not concernd about it.But,if you all are let me know so I can take a day off to sit & watch you all march up to the Tville halls to fight your battle.Continue on there drivers the case of maxi pads are waiting for you all.lol

Big generalization sir. I'm thinking your numbers are a little skewed. May I ask where you got these numbers or are you just assuming all city guys think like you. The guys that left other places didn't come to OD because we where tired of getting time and a half. We left because OD is a better place to work and you're treated pretty good. But that doesn't mean things can't get better and we as employees should stop wanting a better work environment. OD paying overtime has no bearing on how they should treat you.

UPS, FedEx, and Conway all pay overtime. That's why people stay not leave. Those that do leave and choose to come to work here do understand the situation and policies. but this is no longer a "mom & pop" company and never will be again. They will not go under because they pay you for your extra time.

dooooode, you make so much!!! Making only 103k this year instead of 115k won't hurt you.
Now I hope your joking. But if your not, a $12,000 pay cut hurts. I don't make that much anyway but I do earn every dollar I make. And you have that opportunity as well. I'd never ask for anyone in this industry to take a pay cut. When you see a rig rolled over every night on the road you travel you'd feel the same. You don't need to rob Peter to pay Paul. There is plenty of money for OD to do the right thing and pay you dock bumpers for putting extra hours to help them grow their brand. This place is already the best ltl to work at, imagine how great it would be to make what your worth!

It is funny how things work. What they need to do is trim that road driver's pay a little and give it to the city drivers at all the companies.
Virtually every P/D driver at OD has had the option of moving to Line-Haul at one time or another, many decline for a wide variety of reasons, its safe to assume they know about the disparity in pay rates when they make their choices..
