I am interested in relocating to another state and its looking like I'll have to start over with another new company. I'm a 20 year Teamster, and I'm looking at UPS Freight. There are a lot of different job descriptions relative to road work. What do they all mean? Are they union jobs? For example, OTR CDL A Tractor Trailer Truckload Driver Dedicated, OTR CDL A Tractor Trailer Truckload Driver (HazMat Req) Dedicated, Dry Van OTR CDL A Tractor Trailer Truckload Driver (HazMat Req)...
I've read the job descriptions, but there isn't anything indication pension or health and welfare... Not to mention, I'm looking in North Carolina, and coming from a company in New England, are there really as many as 5 or 6 freight terminals in North Carolina that are union? Or are they subcontracted? What would be the difference? Can someone explain the different job descriptions and give me any info on how much I'd be working in a terminal such as Charlotte? Thanks in advance for any info you can give me...

All of the job titles sound like truck load jobs. Not union bad pay. Youre looking for linehaul or p&d. But the 5 terminals sounds about right.

I work for UPS on the Parcel side of the business but will try to help you any way I can. If your interested in UPS Freight you want to apply under the Road Driver position. This is a union job with all the bells and whistles. The OTR Truckload stuff you mentioned above is not a high paying teamster trucking job. Its a truckload job and we all know what they pay. Again assuming you have your HAZMAT and doubles/triples then apply under the Road Driver positions that are listed on the UPS website. If your interested in working for UPS Parcel then the Tractor/Trailer job description (THE union job with all the bells and whistles) is what you would apply under. Good luck and if you have any more questions feel free to send me a PM or just make a posting. Good luck brother!!

I'm also a 25 year Teamster looking to relocate to another state. I have a interview lined up for a UPS tractor-trailer job, but the information they gave me requests that I have a valid commercial driver's license for a minimum of one year for the state I'm trying to work in. I have not found any phone numbers to call at UPS to ask about this. UPSer, do you know anything about this, or do you know someone that might know? Or, do you have a contact number for UPS to find out more about this? I don't want to fly to another state for an interview only to find they are definately not going to hire me because I didn't have a valid commercial driver's license for a year in that state. Thanks!

I'm going to go ask around and talk to an On-Road Supervisor about your question. The interview you have lined up is it an in person interview or a phone interview. If its a phone interview you can just ask the HR person when they call you. I will definitely ask the sup when I get into work tonight.

The interview will be in person, so it would be nice if you could ask around about this. Thanks!

Did not see the sup to address your question. Will try again tonight when I get back into work.

What's the best way for someone with less than a year of driving experience to get their foot in the door at UPSF? Truckload? Dockworker with CDL? Or do I need to get more experience somewhere else? Thanks everyone.

take a part time dock position. they will not hire right off the street if you don't have the experience. then when a dock with cdl position comes up they hire from inside before it gets posted to the outside so then you can move up with out the experience needed.

At hrs they hire off the street full time if you have a CDL, you just need to drive city for a year before you can go to the road side.
Don't make much sense but they will turn a green guy loose to pedal 20 stops but not drive from point a to point to b
