I'm new to Conway and the forum.
I had a question about the 90 day rule for new hires.
When I was offered a job, I was told to hurry and come on-board before the next driving class graduated, so I would have service rank on them.
Well, I came on to Conway, as a DSR, and then about 30 days after I was hired, the driving class graduated. When they graduated, they were put above me in service rank, because I was still in my "90 day probationary period". On top of that, another driver transfered a week before the class got out, and he was put above all of us.
My SCM said I should have rank, but was over ruled by the PS, because of company policy.
I can't find any written policy about the DSR 90 day rule.
Is this a rule? I've been told by other centers that it's BS.
I've tried calling HR in corporate, but they don't pick up the phone or return voicemails.
Any advise?
Thanks.

as far as I know, when a person signs up for the driving class upon graduating, his service rank is the day he signed up. and if you were hired after that date than he/she goes ahead of you. If a driver hires in after you he goes behind you. The 90 days as far as I know goes toward Insurance, I hope this answers your question.

I was told by, pretty much everyone I talked to, that people who go from dock to driving, officially transfer when they get their CDL.
As far as the 90 day rule, I was told our first 90 days don't count towards service rank.

You have less than 90 days in.....don't make same mistake as me and waste 5 years of your life.

Find another job, that's the way it works at Con/Way, but don't worry it might change at any given time, and one more thing stop thinking that someone cares what you think!:1036316054::6792::6799::6817::732:

The school kids will be past their 90 days before they "graduate" the Conway School of HIgher Learning. Therefore they will go ahead of him if he doesn't have his 90 days in yet. The students are full-time when they get thier license and their rank is determined by start date, application date, ect.

If it is burning you up now you better think what you want to do because it will burn you up even worse every year when bid time rolls around.

What i have seen at our terminal is that the guys in the school become regular right when they get their license. It didn't used to be that way, when I got my license through Conway, I still had to go another 90 days after the school to become regular. My service date is at the end of the 90 days not the date of getting the license. I think the reason they did away with the 90 day supplemental period for the guys in school is say someone got hired just after a school started (they aren't eligible for that session). School finishes and maybe it takes a few months for another session to begin. By the time the next school ends, this employee could have been working 6-8 months with no insurance/benefits and then they would still have to wait another 90 days after that. Immediate regular status after a school was kind of an incentive to help out some of these who may have been working Conway as a second job and wanted to make Conway their full time job.

As far as someone transferring in from another terminal, this employee is already regular (full time) status and if his transfer date to the new terminal is before the end of the driving school or before the end of your supplemental 90 days, he would be above you guys. He is already regular and you guys haven't reached that status yet. This is what I have experienced at our terminal.

Sorry so long winded, hope this helps.

Until they all point out or quit for OD like the most the rest of the graduates.

Back in 08-09 when they closed a bunch of terminals, senior guys got dovetailed in. The lower guys did not. They had to re-hire. I got people below me with more company time than me. Every year they say they can't stand it. They still work here. But they can't stand it. Every year I have to hear about it. I didn't close the terminals or tell them to re-hire. But it's all my fault. It has seemed to get worse with time. With one in particular. Just an anecdotal example of what claim jumper is saying. Years later the only difference will be that it is now years later.

Hate to break it to you Shabadoo, but the same thing happened to me, and there's nothing myself or the guys I started with could do about it. I went down about 8 spots due to graduating students. Fortunately, the guys from the graduating class hooked me up with a slice of cake during their graduation party, so it wasn't all bad LOLOL.
