Thinking of applying for solo line-haul job out of Dallas terminal and was wondering about the home time and what kind of miles to expect weekly. How long before you get to bid on runs. Cost of family insurance . any info about the job would be greatly appreciated

To the other part of your question..Family insurance is $54-70 a week for medical depending on which of the two options you choose, dental and vision are fairly low. As far as home time it depends on terminals. Most these days seem to be looking at 5 work days then 48 hours off. Each area runs different.

I know this is a lil off subject, but i just didnt wanna create a new thread for this question.
So is it OD policy to try keep your RPM under 1500 at all times even when climbing the mountain in order to save fuel?

The only time that really bugs me is when climbing a really big one and dropping into 7th, that gear seems to really have a lot of torque in it, then you have to feather the throttle the rest of the way up the hill because you lose your ass going to 8th.

I was going to fill out an app online but OD web site don't offer online app. So I called and they said I would have to call and make an appointment to come in and fill out one. Hope I can do it on the weekend or after 5 during the week because I'm working full time. Do the line-haul drivers at OD do any dock work like con-way and fed ex. When I worked at saia there would be times I would be at a dark terminal and needed a set of empty's and would have to get on fork lift and empty out 2 off the dock but when I was at con-way you had to work dock every night until your return load was ready.

I started setting the cruise at 1475 rpms and just leaving it there till the top of the big ones , rather then shifting, just to immediately shift back and lose speed

I usually just ease out of the throttle and keep it about 1450 to the top with 50% throttle. Then when I get back up to the big hole I just resume the cruise and off we go.

Quick question guys. Since i signed the paper to waived the 10 mins break and lunch period. Do i still need to put myself off duty for 10 mins and the 30 mins break on the blue? Thanks.

what terminal you thinking of applying at a lot are doing apps by appointment only

Don't know what paper you talking about
Its a yellow paper at the end of the driver handbook binder. My apology but i just noticed it says CALIFONIA MEAL & REST PERIOD WAIVER. guess it only applies to us Cal guys.

Anyways, im usally early to my meet point, and i take my 30 mins lunch there. My question is, do i need to put myself back to the ON duty status after 30 mins even though im still sitting there waiting? Thanks
