shuttle yard or warehouse?

Would you guys rather work out of a shuttle site or a warehouse? If it were me I'd rather be out of a shuttle yard
 
Yard especially if it's in a state that allows longer combinations. Limited to 2-28's going to our MO yards, can make for a long day climbing in/out of the side doors. Our KS yards take everything from 28-48' which makes it better on them. Our guys here say they have less supervision and micro management, just do your thing and go home. With the exception of Wichita our yards are in smaller more rural areas=Sysco pay with much lower cost of living. If my kids were grown I'd take a job working out of the Lake of the Ozarks or Springfield in a heartbeat.
 
Yard, if I worked at the Lorain County drop lot for either the beer company or GFS it would be great. The beer company I worked for those Lorain drop yard guys had it made in the shade, you walk about a great gig. Half there fleet was 28' bulk trucks with lift gates and power jacks go to a store, park anywhere you want and just drive the pallet to the front door and two wheel the stuff in. It was like working at MBM.

The yard I work at for GFS is a yard, but it's an office to with managers and everything. Our Lorain lot for GFS is actually just a spot we rent and we share it with guess who? That's right Jack Cooper auto transport.
You see a few sets of GFS trucks and whole line of Jack Cooper trucks. Sharing the yard together.
 
I agree. About 5 years ago I applied for a job with sysco up in duluth mn and virgina mn. Making sysco money in northern mn would be awesome. Plus I just love northern mn.

A buddy of mine just accepted a job with a foodservice company. There starting him at 21 hr and there gonna shuttle him a trailer. They told him to find a spot that is convenient for him. He tried telling me I should call em cuz they will shuttle a trailer to right by where I live. Maybe a 6 mile drive for me. Then I would also run northern mn everyday

A yard, or shuttle yard is what you will work out of in Tulsa, its better than being at the warehouse because we only have one boss on site, instead of 40 at the warehouse, shuttle yard is where its at. It means that your trailers are brought to you, the downside to that is they are late arrivals sometimes, that sets you behind from the get go, when things are running on time its all good and can't be beat.

0500, there are some that start at 0400, a few that start at 0300, we have 2 spots that start at midnight, they stay filled, one that starts at 0300 4 days, most of us start at 0500 with a day or two that are 0400 or 0300 mixed in.

I like to start early, but that means going to bed early and I hate that lol.

I start 04:30 now but have to leave the house by 03:30 and get home around 19:00. Long days. Where is the tulsa shuttle yard?
 
I don't know the address off hand but look up Patriot trucking, we share their yard with our produce company Fresh Point, its on the west side of Tulsa.
 
Gt not trying be an a$$ but shuttle can suck if all you get is 28 fters. Try 20 stops and 948 cases with a cube of 890. Then shuttle yards suck. If can get on at Sysco where they pull 35-48 fters then that would be better.
 
28's go with small routes, we get mostly 36, 38, and 42's, and they are full more often than not. I hear you, working out of a 28 cubed out is tough, thats the benefit of OK, we can pull long sets on shuttle.

Your not an ass Brother, quite the opposite, your a good man with good information, I for one appreciate your point of view, keep it coming my friend!!!

I'm sorry ha-ha! but, I must interject (again...yawn...)

Were the kings of 28' at GFS it's 28' or nothing ha-ha actually you can call me all the bad names you like, but with my current driving abilities in the city and some of the places I go a 28' is just my speed ha-ha I don't want anything bigger please and thank you! I've seen 1000 cases in a 28' the warehouse when they want to can pack'em in! Nobody does the 28' trailer better then Gordon Food Service. Literally we have 2 trailer sizes 28' and 50' and the 50's are pretty much for Chain Alliance and grocery stores the 50's are not rare, but they are scarce you see them there out and around, but they only run out of the warehouses really . Nobody beast GFS at the 28' trailer game! (I know this comes off very bragadocious and pompous ha-ha!)

However even the chain alliance pulls a lot of 28' I see them all the time here in the city. They load a 28' with groceries for Bob Evans and send it to the East Side Suburbs of Cleveland and let it go nuts. Actually and it's not an option for me really, but I would be half tempted to try my hand at customized food service distribution just to see the difference between that and broad line.

I watched a GFS driver the other day walking around his truck, across a small lot, and up into the back door of some Chinese place while I pulled in, backed around behind a long john's, and put my ramp right inside the building. I have one stop on this bid where I can't put the ramp in, or right outside of, the delivery door. No stairs, no elevators, no BS (well, except for that one store).

I deliver four concepts, and know the product like the back of my eyelids. Spreading my 1500 cases and 12 stops over two days and a cushy, quiet hotel is okay, too.
 
Honestly If I went back to foodservice i would want to try mclane. Doing mostly chain accounts and no stairs.
