Is it just me or does anyone else feel that Estes has hired way too many drivers for how much freight they have?

I'm only able to do my bid run with extremely rare extra runs when I get back, meanwhile I see ten extra board trucks at the Super 8 on Roberts road at 028.

I'm sure the XB guys hate doing the Elgin, Lincolnshire, and Oswego runs because I sure wouldn't do it on cpm.

There sure is a lot of extraboard. I used to run a double turn to a little dark terminal. Supposed to pay 600 miles. There were so many extraboard in the hotels central would nearly always give away my second load and I'd go home with 300 miles for the night.

I have heard it said " the ones with the most people wins" With the ever looming Driver shortage coming sooner than later. Maybe this is a small part of the reason. We have a lot of xtra board at our barn to cover other barns freight because they cannot get drivers in that market area.

They ask me if I wanna work every weekend. It's going to be real hard to find drivers soon. Just think, these jobs pay $80,000 to live a leisurely lifestyle and they pay us $500 to find a good driver.

You guys can have all of my 2,200 miles a week. Turned in my keys and cards last week after 7 years of extra board. Wasn't the low miles, but the sitting and nasty personnel at certain terminals. Great company but they gotta get a handle on a few things.

Good luck to you in your future endeavors. I have got a ways to go before I can hang it up.

Is 2200 really about the average for xb? I thought about applying here soon but thought the miles were more plentiful. Is there much downtime at the motels?

It is a little slow for this time of year,in places.Whether that is the economy or over-hiring is debatable, but the overwhelming factor is location,to both of your questions.Post a location or region and maybe someone can give you a more defined response.

Richmond is the closest location that is hiring right now. Had a friend of mine get on in Raleigh not long ago and he really enjoys it so far. He was at holland, where I am now. We are all aware of the yrc woes…

It's really sad what happened to that company as I had a some family members who used to work for them out of the Chicago ridge terminal. Those guys were making 70k a year with full benefits until they got laid off.

I'll tell you that Estes is really underrated place to work for, and the only job I would rather have in this industry is with ups freight.

Estes is right on par now with OD, Conway, etc, but Estes is the most laid back company I have ever worked for in any industry. Sometimes too laid back for my liking, but nobody is gonna give you crap as long as you do your job.

Good Luck out there, Buzz. You are finally going to have a social life!

E is a very lenient place to work, imo.Almost too lenient.Needs a little more accountability in all areas(dock, shop, drivers, and management). If everyone would do what they should,it would make it much easier on everyone.Cut times??hahaha....Proficient shops??depends on where you,re at....Drivers??Clean your crap out of truck when finished and do proper post-trip....Management??Hold people accountable, including low level management.(Almost normal to go 2 hours over cut time,at least on my run).
