Yes sir. Back in the 80s I believe. Yeah, the powers that be take great offense to mentions of the "U" word.

OK, now I see where it's located. I have a question, one I've always had...where exactly does LI begin? Personally I always felt that it was right on the other side of the Kamakasi Bridge.

ABFer I'm a Queens guy but usually if you were riding I-495 (LIE) east when you past the cross island parkway or little neck you were about to cross the city limits and enter the Nassau county line starting Long Island. Or as we say "out on the island".

BTW wasn't the Yellow barn bumped up next to the New Penn barn on Metropolitan Ave or was it the Roadway barn?

Screwy Louie,The old Roadway barn is down on Grand Ave which is now Yrc,if you take a right out of New Penn onto Grand it lays down their on the right. The old Yellow barn and NP are both on Page Pl.

Ok now I got it cause I remember that bridge between the two companies as the river separated Queens and Brooklyn. I remember that river being so dirty and filthy you could walk across it.... Who is in the the old Yellow barn I knew there was an Asian restaurant food supplier across the street that kept Paige place congested with traffic? Thought the Yellow barn was a larger barn the Roadway Barn space and dock wise.

Yes, Bimbo Bread Company. The R yard, was bigger.
The Y dock was bigger. The R dock was ILA [long shoreman], that was the stumbling block. Finally the decision came down and the Y Teamsters dock had to resign from the Teamsters and become ILA members and entail behind the R dock list. They kept their vacation time from Their Teamster service.
The reverse happened at Carlstadt, NJ. The R dock had to become Teamsters and resign from the ILA, because we closed the R terminal and moved into the Y barn.

Thanks, I did not know that, thanks for the info i am glad that i asked. It has been years since I worked up there when I started out shaping up at Carolina Freight, Roadway and Yellow. The ILA situation is that just a NY/NJ thing?

I don't know about that. It was a mutual agreement between Gleason and Tony Pro Local # 560. It may have went on at other East Coast port cities.

Pyle wants them to vacate, New Penn is taking them to court. This matter will be up in the air for a few months, I'm assuming.
