Greetings all, what's the general consensus on ABF, road driver position, direction the company is going, and specifics on pay scale if possible?

No vacation for two years then one week 'til eight years seniority. It seems like there are no sick days until after Jan 1 of next year for yas. Road work is in the vicinity of $.57 per mile plus drop and hook pay, holdup pay but I can't tell you how much time you have to give the company first for that one. For those of us who have been here a while it is getting worse in all aspects but the new hires seem to be orgasmic about working here. Health insurance is fully paid at least until 2018 when next contract comes up and they pay a lot of money into our pension fund.

How far do you live from the terminal? Some drivers don't like going on turn runs where you end up coming back to the terminal you started out from then driving home 60 miles.

I live about 25 miles away from the Chicago Heights, but closer to their terminal by 55 and central.

What function does the Chicago terminal serve because it doesn't seem to be as big or as busy as the Chicago Heights terminal? Do they run line haul of Chicago?

IL-394 & US-30 terminal is called South Chicago and is located east of Chicago Heights in Sauk Village. This is the terminal with the road board. ABF road board is very slow this week which it typically is during the last week of January and is exacerbated by the snow storm hitting Ohio and the North East right now.

I applied for a city p&d postion in Des Plaines. I learned that it's a 2 hour call window to get to either Sauk Village, Bedford Park, or Des Plaines. One would think that they would be more clear on the job description. That and the no vacation for 2 years. With those expectations do they really think they are going to find quality drivers?

Being on the bottom of the board you will probably run a lot of turns. Which is good and bad, the good is sleeping in your own bed but the bad is running a lot in the Chicago area traffic.
