Yellow | Charlotte OTR?

have you seen the cash we get from out lump sum pension and that our monthly is still not only in good shape but better this year than last ?
I have heard of it. I have a couple of buddies who are in it. They love that RIP plan (which does not stand for rest in peace).

I was born and raised in Queens, back in the day the teamsters ruled the roost, obviously I'm out of touch with the current state of affairs. I didn't come here to start a debate about YRC or their pension plan. I came here looking for as much info as I could get prior to speaking with Mr Hines about the position.

I think I will heed the advice given by a few of you. 10-15 years isn't much time to earn much of a pension anyway, so why not try to get on with one of the higher paying freight companies and maximize my earning potential while investing as much as possible. It makes sense to me.

Thanks for your time

Something sounds a little fishy here...troll?????
I'm think he's never been exposed to a union. 90% of the world isn't. His just asking questions and getting answers from people throwing terms at him that he doesn't understand...

Edit: now I see the post above....

Can anyone shed some light on what OTR with YRC is like? I was contacted by the terminal manager in Charlotte about driving OTR. It was supposed to be an interview but he just called and asked how soon could I start. Seems a little desperate to me, makes me wonder how difficult it is for them to keep drivers in that position doing OTR.

I live over 100 miles away from Charlotte and I asked about how that would work, he told me I would be on call and need to show up within 2 hours. I explained I live 2 hours away and he said most drivers on OTR pay for a hotel room in between runs and go home after 6 turns (not sure what term he used) for 48 hours off, or do 12 turns and get 72 hours off.

Not for nothing but at .44 a mile and $17.88 an hour starting off, that doesn't sound like a whole lot of money or time at home. Sure doesn't sound like I would make enough money to justify paying for hotel rooms too. I know the pay goes up 5% each year for 3 years but it stills seems low for OTR.

Last question is this, I'm 53 years old so in 10-12 years what kind of pension would I have with YRC? I heard it's only $25 per year of service? So after 10 years my pension would be a whole $250 a month? Please tell me I heard wrong, lol.

I'm supposed to hear back from the terminal manager tomorrow about scheduling a drug test and physical. I tried to ask questions during my so called interview but he said he was going into a meeting. Can anyone give me some info about the OTR position in Charlotte and what kind of money can someone on the extra board expect to earn?

Thanks
It's a choice u have to make, pension wise they pay 1/4 or 25% of what they should be paying, the job is not what is was or has been, so I guess your choice is go to abf or similar or take chance here it will take 3 yrs to get to full scale, company pays your insurance , not a lot of perks anymore but it is what it is, most of us just trying to finish our time

Ok what he said is true remember the wages increase but the best is the health insurance is the same plus the benefits the same like 5 sick days and the holiday the same. At your age you better take it. To answer the queston the best. Check on your social security if it doesn't say you receive at least $2000 a month at your current pay. Then you better make the move good luck
