ODFL | OD pay and benefits

Does anyone work out of the Harrisburg terminal? Currently in CDL school, talked to Brock today on the phone and am going in Thursday to apply. Just trying to get a little info before I go in. Linehaul would be my first choice and is where Brock said they are hiring for. What kind of starting pay rates would I be looking at and how is the mileage? I understand I would have to run the northeast a good bit. Roughly how long is it taking new guys to get onto a dedicated run? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Starting linehaul pay is about 52 cpm,although thats for an experienced driver. Fresh out of school your'e probably going to spend some time with a trainer might also affect your starting pay. It wouldn't be unreasonable to expect 2500-3000 miles a week working out of HAR once you figure out the system. I'd guess wouldn't take more than a years service at HAR to snag a bid. Good Luck!!

Thanks for the response Dean. Between my current job and school I don't get much time to get on here. I've got a week to go with CDL school and I was told to call the day after I graduate. Hopefully my grades in the program are high enough to be acceptable to the TM and Linehaul Manager. I'm really hoping to get in with you guys. I worked for another LTL a few years back as a dock worker/jockey. What they touted as a "family" environment turned into anything but. I jockey at my current job and have talked to several OD drivers in our yard and they seem to have only good things to say. Fingers crossed...

I put in an application at OD in parsons, KS.
I would like to know how the line runs out of there are, and how soon do health benenfits start after the hire date. If anyone works at this terminal please let me know.

Ok thanks, my buddies that work at OD all like it there. Do they ever layoff drivers?
Will i be able to work as much as i want too?
Thanks

Idk about the terminal where your applying to. But currently at my terminal here in No. Cal. I've only worked less than 6 days/week only 2 times for the 2.5 months I've been with OD. So there's plenty of work.

I'm out of Wichita,but I know a bit about PAR,Its a breakbulk so they have runs that radiate every direction on the compass out of there,most of the bid runs are meet and turns and they run anywhere from 400 to 650 miles out of there.They also have some teams that turn mostly to Rialto CA a couple times a week and a few wild (system) drivers that will do overnight or up to weekly runs.

If starting linehaul rate is around 52 what is the rest of the wage progression? After 1 year and top MILEAGE rate after 2 years any answers?

Top rate is reached in increments in three years, and general pay raises are also added in. Drivers that hire on from another LTL start at a slightly higher rate if I remember correctly.

Off topic, but OD seems to have a lot of day runs, at least here in Dallas-Fort Worth. Is this a correct observation?

Also, rumor has it your Dallas terminal is adding 100 doors!

They have a lot of runs all day long. Lots of freight passes through there, most of it going other places, so they move it to make sure it will make service where it's going.

It's 80 doors, for city operation, so that cross-dock can have more space to operate.

Road pay and local p/d pay will vary a little region to region and time with company.
Road .57....Local 25.40

Vacation
1yr = 2wks
5yr = 3wks
15yrs =4wks
25yrs =5wks

Are city drivers allowed to work over 60 if they run Linehaul over the weekend?

Yes, but your linehaul pay is mileage, and we get paid per piece of equipment on drops/hooks/fuels, so it doesn't pay hourly. Also make sure you can get a restart in before you are scheduled to start each Monday.
